DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1913 (SF) STATION IS ON THE MONROE STREET BRIDGE BETWEEN PASSAIC AND GARFIELD, A LITTLE W OF ITS CENTER AND THE LINE DIVIDING PASSAIC AND BERGEN COUNTIES. THE STATION IS MARKED BY A TRIANGLE AND THE LETTERS U.S.C. AND G.S. CUT IN THE SIDEWALK OF THE BRIDGE, 6 INCHES FROM THE EDGE. TWO CONCRETE POSTS, ONE MARKED, PASSAIC COUNTY, AND THE OTHER, BERGEN COUNTY, SERVE AS REFERENCE MARKS AND ARE RESPECTIVELY 53.3 FEET N 42 DEG E AND 68.1 FEET N 57 DEG W FROM THE STATION.

RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1933 (RWW) RECOVERED STATION IN GOOD CONDITION FROM THE DESCRIPTION. THIS STATION IS ON THE S SIDEWALK OF THE BRIDGE, AND WAS RE-MARKED. A COMPLETE DESCRIPTION FOLLOWS-- THIS STATION IS OVER THE PASSAIC RIVER, IN PASSAIC ON THE MONROE STREET BRIDGE. IT IS ON THE S SIDEWALK NEAR THE CENTER OF THE SPAN. STATION IS NOW MARKED BY A STANDARD C. AND G.S. BRONZE DISK STAMPED BAR 1913-1933 CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE AND COUNTERSUNK 1/2 INCH BELOW THE SURFACE OF THE CONCRETE SIDEWALK. THE ORIGINAL REFERENCE MARKS WERE NOT RECOVERED, NOR ANY NEW REFERENCE MARKS PLACED. REFERENCE MEASUREMENTS WERE TAKEN AS FOLLOWS-- NORMAL TO OUTSIDE EDGE OF CURB 0.23 METERS. NORMAL TO OUTSIDE EDGE OF S SIDEWALK 2.52 METERS. NORMAL TO E END OF CONCRETE SIDEWALK OF SPAN 43.99 METERS. NORMAL TO W END OF CONCRETE SIDEWALK OF SPAN 37.35 METERS. THERE IS AMPLE ROOM AND GOOD FOOTING FOR CENTRAL TRIPOD SET-UPS ON THE CONCRETE SIDEWALK. STATION CHURCH IS DISTANT 591.0 METERS IN AZIMUTH 44 DEG 24 MIN 00 SEC.

  • The orthometric height was scaled from a topographic map.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
