DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1933 (RWW) THIS STATION IS ON THE W SIDE OF THE PASSAIC RIVER, IN PASSAIC ON THE EDGE OF A 50-FOOT BLUFF APPROXIMATELY 0.5 MILE BELOW THE UNION AVENUE BRIDGE. IT IS 11.3 METERS FROM THE CENTER LINE OF, AND ON THE E SIDE OF RIVER ROAD. A REFRESHMENT STAND CALLED THE BRASS RAIL IS JUST TO THE N ON THE PROPERTY OF MR. KATLER. STATION IS MARKED BY A STANDARD C. AND G.S. BRONZE DISK STAMPED KATLER-1933 SET IN THE 12-INCH FLAT-TOP TRUNCATED-CONICAL CONCRETE MONUMENT BURIED WITH TOP 3 INCHES BELOW GROUND SURFACE. TWO STANDARD C. AND G.S. BRONZE REFERENCE DISKS WERE SIMILARLY PLACED. NO.1 TO THE SW NEAR OIL TANKS. NO.2 ACROSS RIVER ROAD TO THE W. ADDITIONAL REFERENCE MEASUREMENTS WERE TAKEN AS FOLLOWS-- NORMAL TO SE CORNER OF REFRESHMENT STAND 1.80 METERS. NORMAL TO SW CORNER OF REFRESHMENT STAND 3.45 METERS. THERE IS AMPLE ROOM AND GOOD FOOTING FOR CENTRAL TRIPOD SET-UPS ON THE HARD-FILLED GROUND. HEIGHT OF LIGHT ABOVE STATION MARK 2-1/2 METERS.

RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1933 (RWW) STATION RECOVERED AS DESCRIBED, WITH THE FOLLOWING EXCEPTION AND ADDITION-- REFERENCE MEASUREMENT TO SW CORNER OF REFRESHMENT STAND SHOULD BE CHANGED TO READ 5.45 METERS. REFERENCE DISK NO.1 IS CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN THE GAS TANK FOUNDATION.

A COMPLETE NEW DESCRIPTION FOLLOWS-- THIS STATION IS ON THE W SIDE OF THE PASSAIC RIVER, IN PASSAIC, AT THE EDGE OF A 50-FOOT BLUFF APPROXIMATELY 0.5 MILE BELOW THE UNION AVENUE BRIDGE. IT IS 11.3 METERS FROM THE CENTER LINE OF, AND ON THE E SIDE OF RIVER ROAD. IT IS LOCATED BETWEEN AN OIL HOUSE (ENLARGED FROM AN OLD REFRESHMENT STAND) AND A NEW GARAGE OWNED BY MR. KATLER. STATION IS MARKED BY A STANDARD C. AND G.S. BRONZE DISK STAMPED KATLER-1933 SET IN THE 12-INCH FLAT-TOP TRUNCATED-CONICAL CONCRETE MONUMENT BURIED WITH TOP 6 INCHES BELOW PRESENT GROUND SURFACE. THERE IS ONE STANDARD C. AND G.S. BRONZE REFERENCE DISK SIMILARLY PLACED STAMPED NO.2 ACROSS RIVER ROAD TO THE W. ANOTHER REFERENCE MARK STAMPED NO.1 HAS BEEN REMOVED. ADDITIONAL REFERENCE MEASUREMENTS WERE TAKEN AS FOLLOWS-- NORMAL TO SE CORNER OF OIL HOUSE 1.8 METERS. NORMAL TO SW CORNER OF OIL HOUSE 5.45 METERS. NORMAL TO NE CORNER OF GARAGE 6.8 METERS. NORMAL TO NW CORNER OF GARAGE 4.7 METERS. THERE IS AMPLE ROOM AND GOOD FOOTING FOR CENTRAL TRIPOD SET-UPS ON THE HARD GROUND.
