Found easily by description. I'm somewhat disturbed that there are benchmarks in cemeteries! As noted in 1988 report, there seems to have been some surface movement. I wonder what Moses Fernbach and Sarah T. Stern think about their bechnmark? RM1 and RM2 found easily.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1933 (RWW) STATION IS E OF THE PASSAIC RIVER, IN LYNDHURST NE OF THE INTERSECTION OF ORIENT WAY AND NEW YORK AVENUE, IN THE NEW MOUNT ZION JEWISH CEMETERY. IT IS LOCATED IN THE S CURB OF A CONCRETE ROAD RUNNING E THROUGH THE CEMETERY FROM ORIENT WAY (112 METERS FROM THE CENTER LINE OF ORIENT WAY). STATION IS MARKED BY A STANDARD C. AND G.S. BRONZE STATION DISK STAMPED HILLSIDE-1933 CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE AND SET FLUSH WITH THE CONCRETE CURB. THREE STANDARD C. AND G.S. BRONZE REFERENCE DISKS WERE SIMILARLY PLACED. NO.1 IN THE CURB TO THE W. NO.2 IN THE CURB ACROSS THE CONCRETE ROAD TO THE N. NO.3 IN THE CURB TO THE E. NO ADDITIONAL REFERENCE MEASUREMENTS WERE TAKEN. THERE IS AMPLE ROOM AND EXCELLENT FOOTING FOR CENTRAL TRIPOD SET-UPS ON THE CONCRETE AND HARD EARTH. A 12-FOOT OBSERVING TOWER IS NECESSARY TO OBTAIN CLEARANCE TO SOUTHERLY AND WESTERLY STATIONS. HEIGHT OF LIGHT ABOVE STATION MARK 3-1/2 METERS.

RECOVERY NOTE BY NEW JERSEY GEODETIC SURVEY 1988 (GRC) THE STATION WAS RECOVERED AT THIS DATE. THE STATION AND ALL THREE REFERENCE MARKS WERE RECOVERED IN GOOD CONDITION. IT APPEARS THAT THERE HAS BEEN MOVEMENT AT THE STATION SITE, PROBABLY OVER A LARGE AREA. THE DISTANCE TO REFERENCE MARK NUMBER 3 IS LONGER BY 0.082 METERS ALTHOUGH THE CHECKED BY 30 SECONDS. THERE IS A LARGE, ABOUT 0.08 METER WIDE CRACK, RUNNING CROSSWAYS BETWEEN THE STATION AND REFERENCE NO 3. THE ANGLE TO REFERENCE MARK NO 2 DID NOT CHECK BY 12 MINUTES. IT IS THOUGHT THAT THE GROUND HEAVED AT THE SITE. THE STATION IS LOCATED IN THE LYNDHURST TOWNSHIP ABOUT 2.0 KM (1.25 MI) EAST OF THE PASSAIC RIVER AND 6.1 KM (3.8 MI) WEST FROM THE NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE IN THE NEW MOUNT ZION JEWISH CEMETERY, A SECTION OF A LARGER CEMETERY. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE JUNCTION OF STATE ROUTE 17, RUTHERFORD AVENUE, AND ORIENT WAY, GO SOUTH ON ORIENT WAY FOR 0.48 KM (0.3 MI) TO SECOND AVENUE ON THE RIGHT. TURN LEFT AND UPHILL FOR ABOUT 112 METERS INTO THE CEMETERY AND THE STATION ON THE RIGHT. THE STATION IS A STANDARD CGS DISK STAMPED---HILLSIDE 1933---, SET INTO THE NORTH CONCRETE CURB OF THE CONCRETE DRIVE, 0.425 METERS (1.4 FT) NORTHEAST FROM THE NORTHWEST EDGE OF A 10 CM SQUARE MONUMENT FOR MOSES FERNBACH AND SARA T STERN AND 0.433 METERS (1.4 FT) NORTHWEST FROM THE NORTHEAST EDGE OF THE MONUMENT. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 IS A STANDARD CGS DISK STAMPED---NO 1---, SET INTO A DRILL HOLE IN THE SOUTH CURB, 2.90 METERS (0.9 FT) EAST-SOUTHEAST FROM THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF A STONE SLAB ABUTTING THE CURB, 3.95 METERS (12.9 FT) NORTH FROM THE SOUTHWEST EDGE OF JOHN J MILLER STONE, 6.815 METERS (22.4 FT) SOUTH-SOUTHEAST FROM THE SOUTHWEST EDGE OF A STONE FENCE CORNER. MARK IS LEVEL WITH THE STATION. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 IS A STANDARD CGS DISK STAMPED---NO 2---, SET INTO A DRILL HOLE ON THE NORTH CURB OF THE DRIVE, 0.959 METERS (3.1 FT) SOUTHWEST FROM THE SOUTHEAST END OF A LONG FLAT STONE MARKED IND EAST RIVER BEN ASSN INC AND 1.295 METERS (4.25 FT) SOUTH SOUTHEAST OF THE SOUTHWEST END. MARK IS LEVEL WITH THE STATION. REFERENCE MARK NO. 3 IS A STANDARD CGS DISK STAMPED---NO 3---, SET INTO A DRILL HOLE IN THE SOUTH CURBING. 1.63 METERS (5.45 FT) NORTHWEST FROM THE NORTHEAST EDGE OF A LONG FLAT STONE CARVED PROG KESSOWER BEN SOCIETY, 1.75 METERS (5.7 FT) NORTHEAST FROM THE NORTHWEST END OF THE STONE AND 5.975 METERS (19.6 FT) SOUTH FROM THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF THE CHARLES I WEISS GRAVESTONE. RECOVERY NOTE BY NEW JERSEY GEODETIC SURVEY 1992 THE STATION IS LOCATED IN THE BOROUGH OF LYNDHURST, ON THE GROUNDS OF THE NEW MOUNT ZION CEMETERY. THE ENTRANCE GATE TO THE CEMETERY IS ABOUT 45 M (147.6 FT) NORTHEAST FROM THE JUNCTION OF ORIENT WAY WITH NEW YORK AVENUE. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE EXIT 16W, TAKE STATE HIGHWAY 3 WEST TOWARDS THE BOROUGH OF RUTHERFORD, TO THE JUCTION WITH STATE HIGHWAY 17. TAKE THE JUGHANDLE FOR STATE HIGHWAY 17 TOWARDS LYNDHURST AND REMAIN ON STATE HIGHWAY 17 TO ITS JUNCTION WITH ORIENT WAY. THERE IS A TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT THIS JUNCTION, WHICH IS NORTH OF THE HILLSIDE CEMETERY. TURN LEFT AND GO 0.3 MI (0.5 KM) SOUTH SOUTHWEST ON ORIENT WAY TO THE CEMETERY GATES ON THE LEFT. TURN LEFT AND GO 0.05 MI (0.08 KM) EAST ON THE CEMETERY ROAD TO THE TOP OF THE HILL AND THE STATION ON THE RIGHT. THE STATION IS OPPOSITE A PATH LEADING NORTHEAST MARKED BY TWO 6 FT (1.8 M) GRANITE POSTS FOR THE IND EAST RIVER BEN ASSN INC ON THE FOOT PAD. THE STATION IS 2.4 M (7.9 FT) WEST SOUTHWEST FROM THE CENTERLINE OF THE DRIVE, 0.8 M (2.6 FT) NORTHEAST FROM THE CENTER OF A GRANITE GRAVE MARKER SET IN BETWEEN TWO EVERGREEN TREES FOR MOSES FERBACH AND SARAH T. STERN, 8.0 M (26.2 FT) SOUTHEAST FROM REFERENCE MARK NUMBER 1, 5.7 M (18.7 FT) SOUTHEAST FROM THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF A HEADSTONE FOR MULLER KATZ PAGET, 5.2 M (17.1 FT) EAST FROM THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF A HEADSTONE FOR FERNBACH SPAR, 13.2 M (43.3 FT) SOUTH FROM THE SOUTH CORNER OF A GRANITE POST AT AN ANGLE POINT IN A PIPE FENCE, 4.7 M (15.4 FT) SOUTHWEST FROM REFERENCE MARK NUMBER 2 AND 8.2 M (26.9 FT) NORTHWEST FROM REFERENCE MARK NUMBER 3.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by GPS observations and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in May 1999.
  • The orthometric height was determined by GPS observations and a high-resolution geoid model.
  • The X, Y, and Z were computed from the position and the ellipsoidal ht.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The ellipsoidal height was determined by GPS observations and is referenced to NAD 83.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
