Found while caching and sightseeing in the area

Lauscherkatze, Mkeys83 and I had a great trip to the US and found some Benchmarks while we were cruising arround or did sightseeing. We also find this one, a great spot. Mkeys83 posted our picture. TFTB and greetings from Germany :-)

Drove by when night-caching to keep up the streak.

We started a cache Tour in the evening. Together with Glitzerelli and Lauscherkatze we look at this great Benchmark.

Found this one while going for the nearby cache...still here!
WOW!

Wow - now THAT's a Benchmark! This rightfully is a historic landmark.
Cache was found quickly after several supermarketeers and scrapmetalshoppers passed by. A fine way to finish a mini-run of 4 caches on 3.14 pi day.

Looking fwd to next pi day on 22/7 22nd of July! TYFC/Hide/Benchmark note

This one stands out pretty well!!

[(:)] found and the cache too.

What a wonderful example of the importance of keeping the old parts of our world intact!! Imagine if the powers that be had been successful in eliminating this? We met Ralph who is a security guard for the Parks service and he showed us around. He even directed us to a nearby window display of the old neighborhood, at TD Bank, right down the block. Thank you for the history lesson.

Was at this tower today while finding the nearby cache.

Found it with Harry.

Documented History (by the NGS)

01/01/1932 by CGS (FIRST OBSERVED)
DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1932 (RWW) STATION IS THE TOWER, W OF THE HUDSON RIVER, IN UNION CITY ON THE NE SIDE OF PETERS STREET BETWEEN PARK AND HUDSON AVENUES, ATOP THE BUILDING OF THE WILLIAM PETER BREWING COMPANY, RISING FROM THE S SIDE OF THIS 5-STORY STRUCTURE. IT IS A SQUARE, RED-BRICK TOWER. THE STATION IS THE TOWERS TOP-CENTER. NOTE--POSITION DETERMINED IS OF WEEHAWKEN, HACKENSACK WATER COMPANY, TOWER ON NE CORNER MAIN TOWER.
01/01/1936 by CGS (GOOD)
RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1936 (RCB) THE STATION WAS RECOVERED IN THE FIELD AS DESCRIBED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION. HOWEVER, THIS DESCRIBED STATION IS NOT THE STATION WHICH WAS OBSERVED UPON, AS WAS DETERMINED IN CONDUCTING THE RADIAL PLOT FOR AIR-PHOTO COMPILATIONS. THE GEOGRAPHIC POSITION PLACES THIS STATION ON THE TOWER OF THE HACKENSACK WATER COMPANY, JUST TO THE N OF THE WEEHAWKEN WATER RESERVOIR NO.1. THE TOWER IS AT THE FOOT OF 41ST STREET ON THE E SIDE OF PARK AVENUE. THE STATION IS NOT THE TOWERS TOP CENTER AS DESCRIBED, BUT IS THE TALLER TOWER RISING FROM THE N CORNER OF THE MAIN TOWER. THIS ERROR WAS DISCOVERED IN THE PROCESS OF COMPILING AIR-PHOTO COMPILATION, REGISTER NUMBER T-5449, ON WHICH IT IS SHOWN. TRIANGULATION STATION WEEHAWKEN 1933 IS LOCATED ON THE S CORNER OF THIS SAME MAIN TOWER.
