Quick logging this evening on the way home from work. As expected, all is good with this BM.

First benchmark we have found, easy to find. Benchmark is in good shape.

Cords show on the other side of the street, look for the bricks along the edge of the road.

Confirmed this one in place over lunch - needed for a quest in which I am partaking.

Quick easy find. Amaizing what you bypass until you have to look for it!!

My GPSr put me on the other side of the street next to a house, but after reading the writeup, it was suddenly easy to spot this one from 50ft away since it sits elevated about 4-5 inches from the ground. Took a trip over to observe the benchmark itself, and can report it's in good condition.

This was one of two we found with our granddaughter who had to trace a benchmark for a school project.

Recovered in good condition...

photoJ 4 (KW0923) disk - Shiremanstown, PA

Was headed this way at lunch and looked and saw that this was just one block from where I was headed. So I grabbed my camera and went on my way. You can almost "stumble" into this find.

Greetings Geocachers/Benchmarkers,

I found this benchmark disk, and very nice monument display, in Shiremanstown, with no difficulty, as described by Airnut. Coordinates and directions are adequate for recovery. An easy find.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
