Disk is hidden by grass in this view. Far wing wall has been repaired since 2006 photo by Ernmark. Near wing wall with bench mark is still in good shape.

This is my first one, I think these should be promoted more and available on your app, you can see and maybe learn about some neat places.

I have been wanting to do this one for some time.Today was the day.

Found with my dad.

Greetings Geocachers/Benchmarkers,

I found this benchmark disk with no difficulty. It’s as described, exactly where it’s supposed to be, along Route 850, at the junction of Route 850 and Route 34 near Shermansdale, as reported and pictured by Mustanglx. Coordinates and directions are adequate for recovery.

Happy Benchmarking,
Ghosthunter
Gettysburg, PA

Found it exactly where it indicated. The coords. were right on and even the elev. was within 3ft.
This is my first actual BenchMark Disk found. the others were survey disks.
It is in excellant shape, no marks of any kind.
I could not take pics. I have no Digital Camera.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
