I didn't spend much time looking on this cold day. The ground near the road was very soft. Seemed like thick leaves.
I did find the azimuth mark.

Witness post still there.

There is little possibility that RM 3 would still be there - thanks to the pipe culvert, but RM 4 should have been there as all 3 disks were set 21 feet N of the centerline. The road did appear to have a small graded 'shoulder' - perhaps, with no witness post, the RM(s) was ignored during constructon.

..braved the poison ivy just long enough to further uncover the stamping

Found with little difficulty on a trip with Ernmark. We couldn't find either RM though, after about 30 minutes with two metal detectors. One seems to have been in the way of a culvert. The other?... who knows. Azimuth mark was found after a visual search. The witness post remains and it is still about 7 inches out of the ground, between the railroad tracks and the road.

The witness post is still there. One RM should be in the background but we couldn't find it.

The reason I avoided this one previously was because of a huge patch of poison ivy around it. The plants were just getting leaves but they were still there, so I didn't even dare kneel to clean off the disk.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in July 1986. No horizontal observational check was made to the station.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
