Found in FAIR condition. N40/05.414 W077/01.531 Garmin 60CSx WGS84 / WAAS-enabled.
also found RM2 on raised cement slab (didnt look for RM1) and 2 raised round cement pedastals with bluish green circular disk with just a "+" on it across the street and at the lot on the right.

Station & both reference marks recovered in good condition. Station & monument now projects only about 1" above the ground. RM 1 sits at the SE corner of the yard at the top of a small bank & is 10' N of pole #20269 27641. RM 2 is NW of the mailbox & closer to the driveway of the next residence. Did not find azimuth mark - roadway in the area has been widened...

Greetings Geocachers/Benchmarkers,

I found this triangulation station benchmark disk amid the weeds and in snow cover. The disk is as described, along Rt. 74 near Dillsburg, PA. RM2 associated with this mark is a short distance to the northwest, visible from the road. Coordinates and directions are adequate for recovery.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1942 (PLB) STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 1.5 MILES S OF DILLSBURG, 12 MILES SE OF CARLISLE, AND 7.5 MILES NE OF YORK SPRINGS, ON PROPERTY OWNED BY MRS. ANNA KNISELY. IT IS 47 FEET SE OF THE SE CORNER OF A SMALL RED BRICK SCHOOLHOUSE, 52 FEET N OF THE CENTER OF STATE ROUTE 74, AND 5 FEET W OF A RAIL FENCE. THE DISK IS STAMPED DILLSBURG 1942 AND PROJECTS 5 INCHES. SURFACE, UNDERGROUND, REFERENCE, AND AZIMUTH MARKS ARE STANDARD BRONZE DISKS SET IN CONCRETE. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 IS S OF THE STATION, 10 FEET N OF A TELEPHONE POLE, AND 2 FEET W OF RAIL FENCE. THE DISK IS STAMPED DILLSBURG NO. 1, 1942 AND PROJECTS 4 INCHES. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 IS W OF THE STATION IN SW CORNER OF SCHOOLYARD, 25 FEET N OF THE CENTER OF STATE ROUTE 74, AND 1 FOOT E OF A N-S FENCE LINE. THE DISK IS STAMPED DILLSBURG NO. 2, 1942 AND PROJECTS 6 INCHES. THE AZIMUTH MARK IS ABOUT 0.4 MILE NW OF THE STATION, 0.25 MILE N OF THE JUNCTION OF STATE ROUTES 74 AND 194, 15 FEET E OF THE CENTER OF STATE ROUTE 74, AND 3 FEET S OF A TELEPHONE POLE. RECOVERY NOTE BY US ARMY MAP SERVICE (NOW DMA) 1952 THE STATION, A STANDARD USC AND GS BRONZE TRIANGULATION DISC, SET IN THE TOP OF A 1 FOOT SQUARE CONCRETE POST, PROJECTING 4 INCHES, WAS RECOVERED IN GOOD CONDITION AS DESCRIBED, WITH THE FOLLOWING ADDITIONS AND CORRECTIONS- THE SCHOOLHOUSE REFERRED TO IN THE ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION IS NOW A HOUSE, THE STATION IS 47 FEET SOUTH OF SOUTHWEST CORNER, NOT SOUTHEAST OF SOUTHEAST CORNER AS PUBLISHED, THE REFERENCE TO A RAIL FENCE SHOULD BE DELETED. THE AZIMUTH MARK IS VERY GOOD, PROVIDING A SMALL TREE IS TOPPED. BOTH REFERENCE MARKS OKAY AS DESCRIBED. THE STATION IS- 84.0 FEET EAST OF CENTERLINE HIGHWAY AND LANE NORTHEAST AT JUNCTION, 50.4 FEET NORTHEAST CENTERLINE HIGHWAY, AND PERPENDICULAR TO 47.2 FEET SOUTH OF SOUTHWEST CORNER OF HOUSE (FORMERLY SCHOOLHOUSE).

RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1966 (ELH) THE STATION MARK, REFERENCE MARKS NO. 1,2 AND AZIMUTH WERE RECOVERED AS DESCRIBED. THE AZIMUTH MARK HAD BEEN STRUCK BY MACHINERY. THE SCHOOLHOUSE HAS BEEN CONVERTED TO A PRIVATE HOME AND IS OWNED BY MR. A.H. FRIEDLANE.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in July 1986.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
