Recovered in good condition - unfortunately, I did not bring any bushwacking equipment & the area was full of nasty, jaggy bushes. Made a visual search for RM 1 to no avail..

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1935 (JB) STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 1.5 MILES S OF SHIPPENSBURG, ON THE PROPERTY OF MR. NATHAN SPECKLER. IT IS ON THE SUMMIT OF TIMBER HILL, IN OPEN FIELD. IT IS 72.9 FEET NE OF THE CENTER OF THE BASE OF AIRWAY BEACON NO. 28, 72 FEET NE OF A HIGH LINE RUNNING NW BY SE, AND 80 FEET SE OF POINT WHERE TIMBER STARTS ON W SIDE OF HILL. ALL MARKS PROJECT 8 INCHES. SURFACE, UNDERGROUND, REFERENCE, AND AZIMUTH MARKS ARE STANDARD BRONZE DISKS SET IN CONCRETE. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 IS 90.64 FEET (27.627 METERS) NE FROM THE STATION AND 2 PACES WSW FROM A LONE 16-INCH OAK TREE. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 IS 77.84 FEET (23.725 METERS) SW FROM THE STATION AT THE EDGE OF THE TIMBER. LAPLACE AZIMUTH MARK IS LOCATED ABOUT 2 MILES SSW FROM THE STATION ON THE W SIDE OF MACADAM ROAD. IT IS 5 PACES W FROM THE CENTER LINE OF MACADAM ROAD AND 3 PACES S FROM A LANE W TO HOUSE ON PROPERTY OF JOHN STROME OF SHIPPENSBURG, AND OCCUPIED BY D.C. ETTER. A 37-FOOT TOWER REQUIRED FOR 1935 OBSERVATIONS.

RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1942 (PLB) STATION WAS RECOVERED WITH ALL MARKS IN GOOD CONDITION. IT IS LOCATED ABOUT 1.5 MILES S OF SHIPPENSBURG, ON THE PROPERTY OF MR. ROLLA MELLINGER WHO GAVE PERMISSION. IT IS ON THE SUMMIT OF TIMBER HILL, IN OPEN FIELD. IT IS 72.9 FEET NE OF THE CENTER OF AN OLD BASE OF AIRWAY BEACON NO. 28, AND IS 80 FEET SE OF POINT WHERE TIMBER STARTS ON W SIDE OF HILL. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 IS NE FROM THE STATION AND 2 PACES WSW FROM A 16-INCH OAK TREE AND 2 PACES ESE FROM A 6-INCH PINE TREE. MARK IS SET IN CONCRETE AND PROJECTS ABOUT 8 INCHES. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 IS SW FROM THE STATION AT THE EDGE OF THE WOODS AND IS ALSO SET IN CONCRETE AND PROJECTS ABOUT 8 INCHES. REACHED FROM THE JUNCTION OF U.S. HIGHWAY 11 AND STATE HIGHWAY 696 AT A RAILROAD TRACK IN THE CENTER OF A STREET IN SHIPPENSBURG BY GOING SW ON U.S. HIGHWAY 11 FOR 0.2 MILE TO FORT MORRIS HOTEL ON THE RIGHT, JUST AFTER CROSSING A RAILROAD TRACK, THEN TURN LEFT AND GO SE ON A PAVED STREET FOR 0.55 MILE TO A PAVED ROAD TO THE RIGHT, JUST AFTER CROSSING TWO RAILROAD TRACKS AND GOING THROUGH A RAILROAD UNDERPASS, THEN TURN RIGHT AND GO SOUTHERLY ON A PAVED ROAD FOR 1.35 MILES, THEN TURN RIGHT INTO MR. MELLINGERS FARMYARD AND KEEP BETWEEN THE BARN AND A SHED, THEN ENTER A LANE AND GO TOWARDS THE HILL FOR 0.1 MILE TO RAILROAD TRACKS, THEN CROSS RAILROAD AND CONTINUE IN LANE AND UP THE MOUNTAIN ON A ROUGH TRAIL ROAD FOR 0.6 MILE TO THE HIGHEST POINT AND STATION. TO REACH AZIMUTH MARK GO BACK TO THE PAVED HIGHWAY AT MR. MELLINGERS HOUSE AND GO S ON IT FOR 2.0 MILES TO THE MARK NEAR A RAIL FENCE ON THE RIGHT AND LANE RUNNING W. IT IS OPPOSITE FARM BUILDINGS WITH A RED BRICK HOUSE. OBSERVATIONS MADE FROM A 37-FOOT TOWER.

RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1960 (JCC) THE STATION MARK, REFERENCE MARKS 1, 2 AND THE AZIMUTH MARK WERE RECOVERED AS DESCRIBED AND FOUND IN GOOD CONDITION. THE DISTANCES AND DIRECTIONS TO THE MARKS CHECKED WITH THE PREVIOUS DATA. THE DESCRIPTION OF THE TO REACH THE STATION AND THE AZIMUTH MARK IS ADEQUATE. LIGHTS WERE SHOWN FROM INSTRUMENT STAND.

RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1975 (CLN) THE STATION AND ALL MARKS WERE RECOVERED AND FOUND IN GOOD CONDITION AS PREVIOUSLY DESCRIBED. THE PROPERTY IS NOW OWNED BY DOCTOR STEPSON OF SHIPPENSBURG, PENNA. MR. STEPSON LIVES IN THE FIRST HOUSE TO THE SOUTHWEST OF THE STATION. NO OBSERVATIONS WERE TAKEN AT THIS DATE. AIRLINE DISTANCE AND DIRECTION FROM NEAREST TOWN--1-1/2 MILES SOUTH OF SHIPPENSBURG.
