DO NOT VISIT THIS MARK.
Neither property owner is agreable to visits, and it was only through a lot of talking that I seaw the three marks. I think it might have been only because I had my 15 year old son along that I was not run off the properties. This was the closest to being denied that I have ever gotten.
That being said... all three marks are very easy to locate and are visible without problem.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1942 (PLB) THE STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 4 MILES N OF DOVER, AND 4 MILES E OF WELLSVILLE, NEAR THE W END OF A HIGH TIMBERED HILL. THE PROPERTY IS DIVIDED INTO SMALL TRACTS AND OWNER COULD NOT BE LOCATED. IT IS 25 FEET W OF THE CENTER OF THE WOODS ROAD AND 16 FEET NW OF A TRIANGULAR-BLAZED 16-INCH OAK TREE. THE DISK IS STAMPED WELLSVILLE 1942 AND PROJECTS 8 INCHES. SURFACE, UNDERGROUND MARKS, REFERENCE MARK NO. 2, AND AZIMUTH MARK ARE STANDARD DISKS SET IN CONCRETE. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 IS A STANDARD DISK, E OF THE STATION, SET IN A DRILL HOLE IN A BOULDER ABOUT 2 BY 4 FEET IN DIAMETER, PROJECTS 1 FOOT, AND IS 3 FEET E OF A TRIANGULAR-BLAZED 24-INCH OAK TREE. THE DISK IS STAMPED WELLSVILLE NO. 1 1942. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 IS S OF THE STATION, 15 FEET E OF THE CENTER OF THE WOODS ROAD, AND 4 FEET N OF A TRIANGULAR- BLAZED 4-INCH OAK TREE. THE DISK IS STAMPED WELLSVILLE NO. 2 1942 AND PROJECTS 5 INCHES. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE POST OFFICE IN DOVER GO NW ON STATE HIGHWAY 74 FOR 1.4 MILES TO A SIDE ROAD RIGHT, AND A SMALL RED BRICK SCHOOLHOUSE RIGHT, TURN RIGHT AND GO NE ON DIRT ROAD FOR 1.5 MILES TO A T-INTERSECTION, TURN LEFT AND GO 0.1 MILE TO A DIM WOODS ROAD RIGHT AT THE W END OF A CULTIVATED FIELD, TURN RIGHT AND FOLLOW WOODS ROAD AROUND THE MOUNTAIN FOR 0.9 MILE TO A Y AND A TRIANGULAR-BLAZED TREE IN THE Y ON THE LEFT, BEAR LEFT AND FOLLOW MAIN-TRAVELED ROAD UPHILL FOR 0.7 MILE TO A TRIANGULAR-BLAZED OAK TREE ON THE RIGHT AND STATION. A 77-FOOT TOWER REQUIRED TO CLEAR LINES TO STATIONS ROUND TOP 1883, ZION 1934, AND PICKETT. A 103-FT TOWER REQUIRED TO SEE STATION DOVER.

  • The orthometric height was scaled from a topographic map.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
