DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1949 (PLB) THE STATION IS LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 1 MILE EAST OF EAST PALESTINE ON THE PROPERTY OF MR. JOHN BLOSCO. IT IS 40.4 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTERLINE OF STATE ROUTE NO 165, 89 FEET EAST OF TWIN PUMPS (PURE OIL STATION), 12-1/2 FEET WEST OF A DOWN GUY ANCHOR AND 2 FEET NORTH OF A POWER LINE. THE MARK PROJECTS 6 INCHES AND IS STAMPED PENNO 1949. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 IS DIRECTLY BELOW AN EAST-WEST POWERLINE, 39 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTERLINE OF HIGHWAY, 24 FEET WEST OF THE CENTERLINE OF A PRIVATE DRIVEWAY AND IS FLUSH WITH THE SURFACE. IT IS STAMPED PENNO 1949 NO. 1. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 IS 42 FEET SOUTH OF THE CENTERLINE OF THE HIGHWAY, 24 FEET EAST OF THE CENTERLINE OF A GRAVELED T-ROAD LEADING SOUTH TO THE NATCO INDUSTRIAL TILE FURNACES AND PROJECTS 2 INCHES ABOVE THE SURFACE. IT IS STAMPED PENNO 1949 NO. 2. THE AZIMUTH MARK IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN A 12 INCH X 12 INCH SQUARE CONCRETE POST PROJECTING 2 INCHES ABOVE THE SURFACE. IT IS 45.5 FEET EAST OF THE EAST END OF A CONCRETE BRIDGE, 16.4 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTERLINE OF STATE ROUTE NO 165 AND 2 FEET SOUTH OF THE NORTH EDGE OF THE HIGHWAY SHOULDER. IT IS STAMPED PENNO 1949. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE JUNCTION OF STATE ROUTES NO 170 AND NO 165 NEAR THE DEPOT IN EAST PALESTINE, GO EAST ON HIGHWAY NO 165 FOR 1.05 MILE TO A T-INTERSECTION WITH A GRAVELED DRIVEWAY LEADING SOUTH AND THE STATION SITE ON THE LEFT. TO REACH THE AZIMUTH MARK, CONTINUE EAST ON HIGHWAY NO 165 FOR 0.3 MILE TO THE MARK ON THE LEFT, JUST AFTER CROSSING A HIGHWAY BRIDGE. A 4 X 4 INCH WITNESS POST, PAINTED WHITE IS 1 FOOT NORTH OF STATION.

THE STATION MAY BE REACHED BY GOING 1.0 MILE EAST ALONG STATE HIGHWAY NO. 165 FROM THE PENNSYLVANIA RAILROAD STATION AT EAST PALESTINE, ABOUT 0.1 MILE WEST OF THE OHIO-PENNSYLVANIA STATE LINE, 41 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE HIGHWAY, 33 FEET SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF A FENCE AROUND A PURE OIL PLANT, 12 FEET NORTHWEST OF A 12-INCH MAPLE TREE, 5 FEET NORTHEAST OF POWER LINE POLE NO. 6253, IN SECTION 25, R 1 W, T 8 N, SET IN THE TOP OF A CONCRETE POST PROJECTING 3 INCHES ABOVE THE LEVEL OF THE GROUND. Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by GPS observations and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in April 1998.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The X, Y, and Z were computed from the position and the ellipsoidal ht.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The ellipsoidal height was determined by GPS observations and is referenced to NAD 83.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
