After over 10 years, the gravel had shifted down the abutment again and we had to uncover it. Once we did, we found the mark in good condition.

This mark was under a pile of gravel on the bridge abutment. The mark is in good condition, with the inscription "F 304 1966" sharp and clear. My GPS coordinates: N 40° 52.678 W 80° 45.202.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1966 AT LEETONIA. AT LEETONIA, ABOUT 0.2 MILE EAST ALONG THE PENNSYLVANIA RAILROAD FROM THE CROSSING OF WALNUT STREET, IN SECTION 12, R 3 W, T 15 N, ABOUT 45 YARDS SOUTHWEST OF AND ACROSS THE TRACKS FROM MILEPOST P 63, SET ON THE TOP OF THE SOUTH END OF THE EAST ABUTMENT OF THE BRIDGE OVER CHERRY VALLEY RUN, 6.5 FEET SOUTH OF THE SOUTH RAIL OF THE NEAR TRACK, 2.3 FEET NORTH OF THE SOUTH END OF THE ABUTMENT AND 4 FEET BELOW THE LEVEL OF THE TRACK.

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
