I too was confused by the plate at first, but after reading previous logs I went back and made the find.

Camera flash made my geocoin illegible.

Although it is mentioned that this mark is underground I wasn't sure what to expect and was at first disappointed when I saw a large metal cover that appeared to be set into the sidewalk where the mark should be. However the metal cover easily slides off revealing the mark below. The mark was a bit muddy and hard to read due to recent rain, but it was easy to find.

Strangely, the datasheet provided by this site is missing a significant recovery log from 1984 that is present in the official NGS datasheet. This log states that the number two azimuth mark was destroyed and that a third azimuth mark was set. I've included pictures of that mark as it doesn't have its own PID. This mark is located at approximately:
N 40° 05.869 W 088° 14.008

Grabbed this one a couple years ago and was in Champaign again. It's still there.

FND 080111@1145hrs while looking for the missing GCPDT0 cache. I suspect the cache was to be a magnetic type attached to the 12" dia. cover of the now vaulted benchmark.

LC0152''A 12 INCH IN DIAMETER METAL PIPE AND COVER. THE MONUMENT IS 8''INCHES BELOW THE LEVEL OF THE SIDEWALK"

Found this one near a cache.

Was about where description said. Unfortunately, the previous log was incorrect and showed the photograph of LC0155 instead of this one.

Saw this in the sidewalk while looking for GCPDT0. Came back to document this as my first benchmark log.

The marker as it lies in the sidewalk. It's actually in a small piece of old sidewalk which was fitted into a new segment of sidewalk the last time the entire stretch of walk was redone.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in October 1999.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
