DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1960 (CAA) THE STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 3 MILES NORTHEAST OF NORMAL, 2.5 MILES SOUTHWEST OF TOWANDA AND 0.8 MILE WEST OF U.S. HIGHWAY 66 IN THE FRONT OF THE HOME OF MR. JESSIE JONES. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE JUNCTION OF U.S. HIGHWAY 66 AND TOWANDA ROAD AT THE NORTHWEST EDGE OF TOWANDA, GO SOUTHWEST ON U.S. HIGHWAY 66 FOR 1.65 MILES TO A CROSSROADS JUST AFTER PASSING A SIGN ON THE RIGHT (DAVIDSONS RESTAURANT), TURN RIGHT FOR ABOUT 75 FEET THEN TURN LEFT AND GO WEST ON A GRAVELED ROAD FOR 0.85 MILE TO THE HOME OF MR. JONES AND THE STATION ON THE RIGHT AS DESCRIBED BELOW. THE STATION IS A STANDARD DISK STAMPED JONES 1960 AND IS SET IN THE TOP OF A 10 INCH SQUARE CONCRETE POST WHICH IS SET FLUSH WITH THE GROUND. ABOUT 0.05 MILES SOUTHWEST ALONG MAIN STREET FROM THE GULF MOBILE AND OHIO RAILROAD STATION IN TOWANDA, THENCE 0.2 MILES WEST ALONG WEST MONROE STREET, THENCE 1.8 MILES SOUTHWEST ALONG U.S. HIGHWAY 66, THENCE 0.85 MILES WEST ALONG A GRAVEL ROAD, AT A FARM HOUSE ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE ROAD, 22 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE ROAD, 85 FEET WEST OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE FARM DRIVE, 97 FEET WEST OF A POWER POLE WITH A TRANSFORMER, 104 FEET SOUTHWEST OF THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF THE FARM HOUSE, 16 FEET EAST OF A TELEPHONE POLE, 15.9 FEET EAST SOUTHEAST OF A METAL WITNESS POST, 0.05 FEET BELOW THE LEVEL OF THE ROAD, AND SET IN THE TOP OF A CONCRETE POST FLUSH WITH THE GROUND.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in October 1999.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
