DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1958 (FAR) STATION IS LOCATED AT THE EAST EDGE OF THE CITY OF PEKIN, DIRECTLY NORTH ACROSS THE ROAD FROM THE NO. 2 TEE FOR THE PEKIN MUNICIPAL GOLF COURSE, 40 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTER OF A GRAVEL ROAD, 3 FEET WEST OF A FENCE CORNER, 2 FEET WEST OF A CONCRETE RIGHT-OF-WAY MARKER POST, AND 1 FOOT NORTH OF FENCE. THE MARK IS FLUSH WITH THE SURFACE OF THE GROUND AND THE DISK IS STAMPED PROEHL 2 1958. REFERENCE MARK NO. 3 IS 58 FEET SOUTH OF THE CENTER OF GRAVEL ROAD, 3 FEET WEST-NORTHWEST OF THE NORTHEAST LEG OF A STEEL TRANSMISSION TOWER FOR A POWER LINE. THE MARK PROJECTS 2 INCHES AND THE DISK IS STAMPED PROEHL 2 NO 3 1958. REFERENCE MARK NO. 4 IS 56 FEET WEST-NORTHWEST OF THE NORTHWEST LEG OF A STEEL TRANSMISSION TOWER FOR A POWER LINE, AND 44 FEET SOUTH OF THE CENTER OF A GRAVEL ROAD. THE MARK PROJECTS 2 INCHES AND THE DISK IS STAMPED PROEHL 2 NO 4 1958. THE DISTANCE FROM R.M. NO. 3 TO R.M. NO. 4 IS 73.01 FEET. AZIMUTH MARK IS IN FRONT OF THE CLUBHOUSE FOR THE PEKIN MUNICIPAL GOLF COURSE AND MIDWAY BETWEEN TWO GRAVEL DRIVES LEADING SOUTH TO THE CLUB HOUSE WHICH IS ABOUT 200 FEET SOUTH-SOUTHEAST, 33 FEET SOUTH OF THE CENTER OF A HARD SURFACED ROAD, 3.5 FEET NORTH OF A CONCRETE FENCE POST, AND 2 FEET EAST OF A TELEPHONE POLE. THE MARK IS FLUSH WITH THE GROUND AND THE DISK IS STAMPED PROEHL 1935 AZIMUTH. THE ILLINOIS RIVER COMMISSION MARK (PEKIN I.R.C.) WAS NOT RECOVERED AND SHOULD BE LISTED AS DESTROYED BECAUSE THE BANK WHERE IT WAS LOCATED HAS ERODED AWAY. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF THE TAZEWELL COUNTY COURTHOUSE SQUARE IN PEKIN, GO EAST-SOUTHEAST ON COURT STREET FOR 0.35 MILE. BEAR LEFT AND GO EAST ON BROADWAY STREET FOR 1.5 MILES TO THE CLUBHOUSE ON THE RIGHT AND THE AZIMUTH MARK AS DESCRIBED. CONTINUE EAST FOR 0.35 MILE TO THE STATION ON THE LEFT AS DESCRIBED. HEIGHT OF LIGHT ABOVE STATION MARK 1 METERS.

RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1975 (FAR) PROEHL 2 1958 RECOVERED GOOD--NOTE-S. SIDE OF MONUMENT EXPOSED 1 FT BELOW TOP-TOP OF MONUMENT FINISH WITH GROUND TO THE NORTH. PROEHL 2 NO 3 1958 RECOVERED GOOD. PROEHL 2 NO 4 1958 RECOVERED GOOD. AZ MK NOT FOUND - GOLF COURSE OPERATOR SAID CREWS HAVE LOOK FOR 4 YEARS AND NOT FOUND IT. WE DID NOT SEARCH FOR IT. THERE IS A P.P. ON LINE BETWEEN STATION AND RM NO. 3 SET A STEEL POST AND SIGN 1 FT SOUTH OF THE STATION. FURTHER ERODING OF THE STATION CAN BE EXPEXTED ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE STATION. DISTANCE AND DIRECTION FROM NEAREST TOWN--EAST EDGE OF PEKIN, ILL.

RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1978 (CLN) THE STATION MARK, REFERENCE MARKS 3 AND 4 WERE FOUND IN GOOD CONDITION. THE AZIMUTH MARK WAS SEARCHED FOR BUT NOT FOUND. THE PREVIOUS DESCRIPTION IS ADEQUATE TO RECOVER THE STATION. THE STATION WAS NOT OCCUPIED AT THIS TIME AS IT WAS RAINING AND HAD BEEN FOR 2 DAYS. A METAL WITNESS POST IS 1-FOOT SOUTH OF THE STATION. AIRLINE DISTANCE AND DIRECTION FROM NEAREST TOWN--AT THE EAST EDGE OF PEKIN.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in October 1999. No horizontal observational check was made to the station.
  • The orthometric height was scaled from a topographic map.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
