Found with Nan-D1955 on our trip out west.

Found it with NikCap and Geo-Nat while visiting Tri-state point, awesome location.

On a big Mexico and US roadtrip with rosmar and kiwi.bug and caching under the team name FRK17. First we flew to Mexico and then to Houston where we began an 11 state roadtrip taking in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Oregon and Washington culminating in the Going APE 2017 mega and the reinstated APE cache.
Well we weren't actually planning to start our roadtrip in Houston, it was meant to start in Kansas City but due to flight disruptions we only made it to Houston, so had to do a one day drive from Houston to Kansas City to get back onto the original plan.

Found near Virtual Geocache

Found it.

This benchmark found on a 3 day geocaching road trip with Tumbleweed42, covering 5 states, 1579 miles (at least 200 unpaved) and 50+ of the greatest caches ever. This is my first set of benchmarks logged.

The Wolf came to visit and wanted to do some caching. We originally planned some power trails but he was really wanting to grab Mingo. What the heck I guess we can do some targeted caching for a few days around that. We left Austin at the crack of dawn ready for some action. This will be a fun trip leading up to next month's Nevada trip for some numbers and then the Arizona trip for a ton of GeoArt at the end of the year. What a great ending to a great year filled with new adventures. Thanks to all the COs who placed and maintain these caches for us to enjoy. I will be sending the answers for any caches that require them for the both of us by the end of the night when back at the hotel. Thanks!!

Found with Razor1965 while hunting a geocache.

In the area for a geocache.

Found while here for the virtual.

On an EPIC roadtrip with marshwin to grab some historic caches and virtuals and earthcaches through 5 states... we saw so many things that qualified as benchmarks, I'll never look at a Grain Elevator, Church Spire or Water Tower the same way again. Thanks.

Found this with sobrfndr while finding the tricorner benchmark and virtual after we found MINGO! This benchmark is wearing with the weather, but so interesting to see. I am so glad that we made the extra trip over to see this one. Interesting history and very cool to be so close to where three states come together.

Very fun to walk down from the tricorner to see this original stone set almost 150 years ago. As noted, all the original markings are mostly eroded away so interesting to see what they originally said. Road in was very muddy, lucky I had a 4WD or I would have gotten stuck at the last mudhole!

After Hostanut and I found the Three Corners Virtural cache and the current tri-state benchmark, we walked about 500 feet to this old large stone monument. Much more impressive than the current marker, even if it was off as little!

On 8-4-12 I was married to the intelligent, gorgeous, phenomenally amazing woman known as theladybee! Shortly thereafter we set upon a honeymoon excursion across the western two thirds of our glorious country. We embarked from Columbus, Ohio and spent the next two weeks packing in as much beauty as we could. We would awaken around 8am, drive and explore all day and night until around midnight, find a hotel, go to sleep, and repeat it the next day. We journeyed through 20 states: Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa. We marveled at 8 National Parks: Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Mesa Verde, Petrified Forest, Grand Canyon, Sequoia, Kings Canyon, Yosemite, Badlands. We wondered at 2 National Monuments: Gateway Arch, Devils Tower. We got up close and personal with lynx, elk, rams, bear, prairie dogs, and other varmint. We paid homage to the original stash, the oldest remaining cache, HQ, and even got down at the Block Party. We targeted caches to help us qualify for challenges, to help us created challenges, challenges themselves, earth and virtual caches in the parks, and anything interesting we happened to come across. We drove 7,449 miles in total. The things that awed me, the sensations I experienced, I will remember them always, but they pale in comparison to the time I spent with the lady who is my life. The journey we took will stay with me forever. Thank you for placing a benchmark that constituted part of our journey.

What a day![/blue]
[teal]We had to be in Sterling, CO early this A.M. and, with nothin' else pressin', decided to head out to Arikaree and
Three Corners Virtual Cache and finally get them off of our wish list as well as test out the new NUVI 265.
The NUVI works like a charm and we had fun checkin' it out.
It was a nice (and loooong!) day, but we got 'em both and then some.
We put a total of 485 miles on the NUVI & rockymtn8iv's Ride and managed to score 30 caches in 3 different states with not a one [blue]DNF[/blue] ! [/teal] [maroon]
This was a fun stop and we lingered and checked out all the different markers and reference points.
We also signed the register. The "boys" had fun sniffin' around while we took pics. and did a little CITO[green]

Found while caching the 3 Corners.
Iowa Copper

Yes, the stone is pretty well weathered (limestone doesn't react well to water over time ) but as a general marker should last for quite a while still.

i could only see three feet of this marker but im gonna count it

No problems finding this historic marker at the posted coordinates. Most of the engraved letters on the limestone are hard to make out, but this one should last for at another 150 years. It's in fair condition.

Documented History (by the NGS)

1/1/1869 by USGLO (MONUMENTED)
1/1/1942 by USGS (SEE DESCRIPTION)
DESCRIBED BY US GEOLOGICAL SURVEY 1942 THE NEBRASKA-KANSAS STATE LINE WAS LOCATED FROM GEOLOGICAL SURVEY TRAVERSE BASED ON COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY TRIANGULATION AND FROM THE COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY HAIGLER STANDPIPE. THIS LINE IS ABOUT 615 FEET N OF THE PUBLISHED COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY POSITION FOR THE NW CORNER OF KANSAS. AN EXAMINATION OF THE GENERAL LAND OFFICE PLAT TIS RXLII W OF THE SIXTH PRINCIPAL, KANSAS, DISCLOSES A CORNER KNOWN AS CHAFEES CORNER ABOUT 615 FEET S OF THE NW CORNER OF KANSAS. ACCORDING TO KANSAS FIELD NOTES S AND W, VOL. 140, PAGE 54, THE NW CORNER OF KANSAS WAS MARKED ON JUNE 15, 1873 BY A LIMESTONE 24- BY 20- BY 8 INCHES SET 18 INCHES DEEP IN A STONE MOUND 9.33 CHAINS N OF MR. CHAFEES CORNER WHICH HAD BEEN SET PREVIOUSLY. ACCORDING TO THE GENERAL LAND OFFICE FIELD NOTES CHAFEES CORNER IS A STONE SIX FEET LONG WITH THREE FEET EXPOSED, IS ONE FOOT SQUARE AT THE TOP AND OCTAGONAL NEAR THE GROUND. IT WAS SET IN 1869 AND MARKED 1869 ON THE N FACE, 40 DEG NORTH ON THE E, 25 DEG WEST ON THE S, AND COLORADO ON THE W. THIS DESCRIPTION AGREES CLOSELY WITH THE COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY DESCRIPTION OF THE NW CORNER OF KANSAS. THIS DESCRIPTION AND THE FACT THAT WHEN THE COAST SURVEYS NW CORNER OF KANSAS IS PLOTTED IT FALLS ABOUT 9.3 CHAINS S OF THE STATE LINE, INDICATES THAT THE COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY LOCATED CHAFEES CORNER AND NOT THE STONE MARKING THE NW CORNER OF KANSAS.
