DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1934 (WRP) THE STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 17 MILES SOUTH OF DIX NEBR. AND 0.4 MILE SOUTH OF THE COLORADO-NEBRASKA STATE LINE AND IS ON THE HIGHEST POINT OF A VERY PROMINENT BUTTE. IT IS ON LAND OWNED BY BOB JONES WHO LIVES ABOUT A MILE EAST OF THE STATION. THE STATION MARK IS 30 YARDS NORTHWEST OF THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF A DESERTED CONCRETE HOUSE WHICH IS SITUATED ON THE SOUTHEAST SLOPE OF THE HILL ON WHICH THE STATION IS LOCATED. MARK PROJECTS 4 INCHES. TO REACH THE STATION FROM DIX, A SMALL TOWN ON U.S. HIGHWAY 30 AND THE UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD, GO SOUTH ON GRADED ROAD FROM THE INTERSECTION OF A GRADED NORTH-SOUTH ROAD AND U.S. HIGHWAY 30 IN THE WEST EDGE OF TOWN FOR 13.0 MILES TO A GRADED T-INTERSECTION. HERE TURN RIGHT, (WEST), AND GO 0.4 MILE TO A GRADED ROAD ON THE LEFT. HERE TURN LEFT (SOUTH) AND GO 3.0 MILES TO A 50-YARD EASTWARD JOG IN THE ROAD. (THE HOUSE OF CLYDE GORMAN IS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD AT THIS POINT. ALSO THE AZIMUTH MARK IS ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE ROAD OPPOSITE THE POINT WHERE THE ROAD TURNS EAST.) HERE GO EAST 50 YARDS AND THEN SOUTH ON MAIN ROAD 0.4 MILE TO A GATE IN THE RIGHT-OF-WAY FENCE ON THE RIGHT (WEST) SIDE OF THE ROAD. HERE LEAVE ROAD, TURN RIGHT, PASS THROUGH GATE, AND GO WEST 0.3 MILE TO TOP OF BUTTE AND STATION. SURFACE, UNDERGROUND, REFERENCE AND AZIMUTH MARKS ARE STANDARD BRONZE DISKS SET. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 IS NORTHEAST OF THE STATION AND PROJECTS 4 INCHES. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 IS SOUTH OF THE STATION AND PROJECTS 4 INCHES. AZIMUTH MARK IS NORTH-NORTHEAST OF THE STATION, AND IN THE RIGHT-OF-WAY FENCE ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF A GRADED NORTH-SOUTH ROAD AT A POINT WHERE THE ROAD BENDS TOWARD THE EAST FOR A FEW YARDS. THE MARK IS APPROXIMATELY ON THE STATE LINE AND PROJECTS 4 INCHES. THIS STATION IS AVAILABLE FOR TRAVERSE CONNECTION TO BOUNDARY MONUMENTS IN THE EVENT THAT ANY OF THEM ARE SET IN THIS VICINITY IN THE FUTURE. AT PRESENT THERE ARE NONE IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD. A 10-FOOT STAND WILL CLEAR ALL LINES FROM THIS STATION.

RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1963 (BMK) ALL MARKS WERE RECOVERED AND FOUND IN GOOD CONDITION. A NEW DESCRIPTION FOLLOWS-- THE STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 26-3/4 MILES NORTH AND 10 MILES EAST OF STONEHAM, 1/2 MILE SOUTH OF THE COLORADO-NEBRASKA STATE LINE, IN THE SE 1/4 OF SEC. 22 T12N R54W, AND ON THE HIGHEST POINT OF A PROMINENT BUTTE OWNED BY MR. RAY PHILLIPS. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE POST OFFICE IN STONEHAM, GO NORTH FOR 0.35 MILE TO STATE HIGHWAY 14. TURN LEFT, WEST, ON STATE HIGHWAY 14 FOR 0.6 MILE TO THE JUNCTION OF STATE HIGHWAY 14 AND STATE HIGHWAY 71. TURN RIGHT AND GO NORTH ON STATE HIGHWAY 71 FOR 19.8 MILES TO A ROAD, A STOCK GUARD, AND A SIGN PAWNEE NATIONAL GRASSLAND TWO MILE PASTURE ON THE RIGHT, EAST, SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. TURN RIGHT AND GO EAST FOR 10.0 MILES TO A T-JUNCTION. TURN LEFT AND GO NORTH FOR 7.0 MILES TO A CROSSROAD. (CONTINUE AHEAD, NORTH, FOR 0.6 MILE TO A CURVE IN THE ROAD AND THE AZIMUTH MARK ON THE LEFT, SOUTHWEST, SIDE OF THE ROAD.) TURN LEFT, WEST, FOR 0.15 MILE TO A TRACK ROAD ON THE RIGHT. TURN RIGHT AND FOLLOW THE TRACK ROAD NORTH FOR 0.2 MILE TO THE HIGHEST POINT IN THE VICINITY AND THE STATION. THE STATION MARK, STAMPED CONCRETE 1934, IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH SQUARE, CONCRETE POST THAT PROJECTS 2 INCHES. IT IS 98 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF A DESERTED CONCRETE BUILDING AND 3.0 FEET WEST-SOUTHWEST OF A WITNESS POST. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1, STAMPED CONCRETE NO 1 1934, IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH SQUARE, CONCRETE POST THAT PROJECTS 1 INCH. IT IS 62.2 FEET NORTHEAST OF THE WITNESS POST. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2, STAMPED CONCRETE NO 2 1934, IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH SQUARE, CONCRETE POST THAT PROJECTS 3 INCHES. IT IS 78.5 FEET SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF THE WITNESS POST. THE AZIMUTH MARK, STAMPED CONCRETE AZIMUTH 1934, IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH SQUARE, CONCRETE POST THAT IS FLUSH WITH THE GROUND. IT IS 53 FEET SOUTHWEST OF THE CENTER OF THE ROAD AND 1.1 FEET SOUTHEAST OF A WITNESS POST. IT IS 119.7 FEET OR 36.47 METERS BETWEEN THE REFERENCE MARKS.
