Eventually spotted this one.

Found as discribed in 1952 NORTH of the gravel road in good cond.

Found benchmark, as described. Coordinates as given by description put the disk south of the road. It is really north of the road.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1952 7.6 MI E FROM GROVER. 0.3 MILE NORTHWEST ALONG THE CHICAGO, BURLINGTON AND QUINCY RAILROAD FROM THE STATION AT GROVER, THENCE 4.2 MILES EAST ALONG A GRADED DIRT ROAD, THENCE 3.05 MILES EAST ALONG A GRAVELED ROAD, 116 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE GRAVELED ROAD, 84 FEET NORTH OF A POWER POLE, 76 FEET NORTH OF A FENCE CORNER, 18 FEET WEST OF THE CENTER LINE OF A TRACK ROAD LEADING NORTH, 2.6 FEET EAST OF A FENCE, 3.5 FEET SOUTH OF A WITNESS POST, SET IN THE TOP OF A CONCRETE POST WHICH PROJECTS 0.5 FOOT ABOVE THE GROUND.

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
