DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1937 (FGJ) STATION IS LOCATED 3-1/2 MILES E AND 1-1/4 MILES N OF STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, ON A PARTLY ASPEN AND SPRUCE COVERED KNOB ON A LONG RIDGE THAT RUNS TOWARDS STEAMBOAT SPRINGS FROM THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE AT BUFFALO PASS, AND LIES BETWEEN SPRING CREEK AND FISH CREEK. STATION IS ON THE HIGHEST POINT OF A ROCKY OUTCROP ABOUT 10 FEET HIGHER THAN SURROUNDING OPEN GLADE. STATION AND REFERENCE MARKS ARE STANDARD BRONZE DISKS WEDGED IN DRILL HOLES IN OUTCROPPING BEDROCK. THE AZIMUTH MARK IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN GRANITE ROCK OUTCROP ABOUT 10 FEET BY 10 FEET AND 4 FEET HIGH AND IS APPROXIMATELY 0.4 MILE NE OF STATION, IS IN A CLEAR SPACE ABOUT 20 FEET S OF TIMBER AND 100 YARDS W OF TRAIL TO STATION. AT THIS POINT OF TRAIL THERE IS A 24-INCH PINE STUMP, 6 FEET HIGH JUST E OF TRAIL. REACHED FROM COURTHOUSE AT STEAMBOAT SPRINGS BY GOING NW ON MAINE STREET FOR 1-1/2 BLOCKS TO 7TH STREET AND A SIGN POINTING TO HOT SPRINGS. THENCE TURN RIGHT AND GO NE ON 7TH STREET FOR 0.35 MILE TO STREET FORK AND A SIGN POINTING TO HOT SPRINGS. THENCE TAKE RIGHT FORK AND FOLLOW HOT SPRINGS ROAD, GRAVEL, E AND N THEN E THEN N, ON MAIN-TRAVELED ROAD FOR 2.1 MILE TO A SIDE ROAD E AND A FOREST SERVICE SIGN READING BUFFALO PASS-NORTH PARK. THENCE TURN RIGHT AND GO E FOR 0.2 MILE TO A SIDE ROAD N AND A HOUSE. THENCE CONTINUE STRAIGHT AHEAD PAST HOUSE AND THROUGH CATTLE GUARD AND FOLLOW BUFFALO PASS ROAD, NARROW AND ROUGH ROAD, UP MOUNTAIN FOR 3.15 MILES TO A FOREST SERVICE CABIN ON THE RIGHT. THENCE CONTINUE RIGHT ON MAIN-TRAVELED ROAD UP MOUNTAIN FOR 4.15 MILES TO AN OLD TELEPHONE POLE ON THE LEFT WITH A YELLOW FOREST SERVICE SIGN READING, DROWN YOUR CAMPFIRES EVERY SPARK. THIS IN A BOULDER STREWN, BURNED OVER OPEN SPACE ON TOP. THENCE CONTINUE ON ROAD FOR 0.1 MILE TO A TRIANGLE BLAZE ON ONE OF TWO SMALL PINE TREES ON THE RIGHT AND THE ROAD MAKES A TURN TO THE LEFT AROUND ROCK LEDGE. ON BEND IN ROAD LEAVE ROAD AND MAKE A SHARP TURN TO RIGHT AND GO SW TO BLAZES ON TREES ALONG TRAIL ABOUT 50 YARDS FROM ROAD AND END OF TRUCK TRAVEL. FROM HERE PACK DOWN HILL ON TRAIL SW FOR 0.13 MILE TO SPRING CREEK. THENCE FOLLOW TRAIL SOUTHERLY UP HILL TOWARDS PINE TREES IN SADDLE FOR ABOUT 1 MILE TO THE HIGHEST POINT ON TRAIL AND A TRIANGLE BLAZE ON A PINE TO THE RIGHT OF TRAIL. THENCE CONTINUE DOWN HILL ON TRAIL S-SW FOR ABOUT 1/2 MILE TO SADDLE. THENCE LEAVE TRAIL KEEP RIGHT AND GO SW UP HILL TO HIGHEST POINT ABOUT 0.25 MILE TO ROCKY OUTCROP AND STATION. DISTANCES TO REFERENCE MARKS COMPUTED FROM MEASUREMENTS OF SLOPE DISTANCES FROM INSTRUMENT AND VERTICAL ANGLES.

  • The orthometric height was scaled from a topographic map.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
