Barefoot and I were out running some errands on this rainy day and took advantage of being in the general vicinity to grab a couple of benchmarks.

We were doing a bit of work in the area and I managed to scope this one out.

A few days after a "flood" ...junk almost all the way up to the tracks!!!

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1935 AT WATERBURY. AT WATERBURY, NEW HAVEN COUNTY, ON THE NEW YORK, NEW HAVEN AND HARTFORD RAILROAD, AT THE PLATT MILLS, AT BRIDGE 24.30, IN THE TOP OF THE WEST SIDE OF THE NORTH ABUTMENT, 50 FEET EAST OF THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF THE BRISTOL FACTORY OFFICE BUILDING, 12 FEET WEST OF THE WEST RAIL, AND ABOUT 1 FOOT LOWER THAN THE TRACK.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
