TURN SHARP RIGHT AND GO NORTHWEST ON THE TRACK ROAD, FOLLOWING THE POWER LINE FOR 0.2 MILE TO A WOODS ROAD ON THE RIGHT, TURN RIGHT AND GO NORTHEAST ON THE WOODS ROAD FOR 0.05 MILE TO THE TOP OF THE HILL AND THE STATION. THE STATION MARKS ARE STANDARD DISKS STAMPED---CARTER 1976---. THE SURFACE DISK IS SET IN TOP OF A 12-INCH ROUND CONCRETE POST WHICH PROJECTS ABOUT 4 INCHES ABOVE THE GROUND SURFACE. THE UNDERGROUND DISK IS SET IN AN IRREGULAR MASS OF CONCRETE WHICH IS ABOUT 48 INCHES BELOW THE GROUND SURFACE. THEY ARE 24.5 FEET SOUTHEAST OF A TWIN TRUNK TREE, 13.5 FEET WEST OF A METAL WITNESS POST AND 12 FEET EAST OF A TRIANGULAR BLAZED TREE. REFERENCE MARK 1, STAMPED---CARTER NO 1 1976---, IS A STANDARD DISK CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN AN OUTCROPPING OF BEDROCK THAT IS ABOUT 3 FEET IN DIAMETER AND PROJECTS ABOUT 4 INCHES ABOVE THE GROUND SURFACE. IT IS 14 FEET WEST OF A 6-INCH TRIANGULAR BLAZED TREE, 7.5 FEET SOUTHEAST OF A METAL WITNESS POST AND 5 FEET SOUTHEAST OF AN 18-INCH TRIANGULAR BLAZED TREE. REFERENCEE MARK 2, STAMPED---CARTER NO 2 1976---, IS A STANDARD DISK CEMENTED IN A 6 FOOT BY 8 FOOT BOULDER AND PROJECTS ABOUT 3 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND SURFACE. IT IS 41.4 FEET NORTH OF A TWIN TRUNK TREE, 8 FEET EAST OF A METAL WITNESS POST AND 7 FEET SOUTH OF A TRIANGULAR BLAZED TREE. NO SUITABLE PLACE WAS FOUND FOR AN AZIMUTH MARK. THE HEIGHT OF LIGHT ABOVE THE MARK WAS 30.4 METERS. DESCRIBED BY L. D. ACRES.
01/01/1978 by NGS (SEE DESCRIPTION)
RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1978 (GEL) THE SUBSURFACE STATION MARK AND REFERENCE MARK 1 WERE RECOVERED IN GOOD CONDITION AS DESCRIBED IN 1976. THE SURFACE STATION MARK WAS FOUND BROKEN OFF. A NEW SURFACE MARK WAS SET HOLDING THE POSITION OF THE UNDERGROUND DISK. REFERENCE MARK 2 WAS FOUND BROKEN OFF. REFERENCE MARK 3 WAS CEMENTED IN THE DRILL HOLE THAT REFERENCE MARK 2 WAS PREVIOUSLY SET IN. THE HORIZONTAL DISTANCE AND DIRECTIONS TO REFERENCE MARK 1 COMPARED FAVORABLY WITH THE 1976 DATA. REFERENCE MARK 4 WAS ESTABLISHED AT THIS TIME. A NEW AND COMPLETE DESCRIPTION FOLLOWS. THE STATION IS LOCATED 4-1/2 MILES SOUTHWEST OF GILEAD, 1 MILE NORTH OF THE NORTH EDGE OF THE SALMON RIVER STATE FOREST, 1/2 MILE SOUTHWEST OF MARLBOROUGH AND IS ON PROPERTY OWNED BY MR. ROBERT FARLEY WHOSE ADDRESS IS ROUTE 66 MARLBOROUGH, CONNECTICUT 06424 AND TELEPHONE NUMBER IS 295-9223. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE JUNCTION OF STATE HIGHWAYS 2 AND 66, WHICH IS JUST NORTH OF MARLBOROUGH. GO SOUTHWEST ON STATE HIGHWAY 66 FOR 0.2 MILE TO THE JUNCTION OF SOUTH MAIN STREET. IT IS 12 FEET EAST OF A 20-INCH OAK TREE, 5 FEET WEST OF A 16-INCH OAK TREE AND 3 FEET NORTH-NORTHEAST OF A METAL WITNESS POST. THE UNDERGROUND MARK STAMPED---CARTER 1976 NO 4 1978---, IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN THE TOP OF AN IRREGULAR MASS OF CONCRETE ABOUT 36 INCHES BELOW THE GROUND SURFACE. NO MEASUREMENT BETWEEN THE REFERENCE MARKS DUE TO DENSE BRUSH AND TREES ON LINE. HEIGHT OF THE LIGHT ABOVE THE STATION WAS 30.2 METERS. DESCRIBED R.K. MOORE, TYPED BY J.A. TISDALL.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in August 1998.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
