Partially covered with leaves, but I saw it.

This was my first benchmark!!!!! Must have passed this 20,000 times! :-)

Recovered station disc as indicated. My coordinates were: N 41deg,44.810 x W 074deg,05.448

Found in good condition. I've gone past this mark 50 times in the past year.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1942 AT NEW PALTZ. THIS MARK IS AT NEW PALTZ, ULSTER COUNTY, SET IN THE TOP OF THE NORTHWEST WINGWALL OF THE STEEL SPAN BRIDGE OVER THE WALLKILL RIVER, AND IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN A DRILL HOLE ABOUT 6 INCHES HIGHER THAN THE PAVEMENT.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
