More like 25 feet from the northwest corner of the Dater-Press Building. But it is there!

First of three benchmarks netted along Main St. in Ramsey during a Chinese food run. (The Chinese place in the strip mall near this mark is highly recommended.) This was definitely the most difficult of the three because the cross is both worn and rather unobtrusive, but it's definitely there.

This one was harder to locate. I didn't see it at first. Then I used the neighborhood wi-fi to get more information and went back for it. This mark is a bit further to the West than I thought. Also, I have no idea where the Dater building ends and where the Journal building begins. The whole block is apparently now the Dater-Journal building.

Quick locate. We are visiting from Minnesota, took in Ramsey Day. "X" marks the spot and as indicated in the last log, is still there and in pretty good shape.

Not too hard a find if you follow the datasheet. I didn't have to measure but simply paced off the approximate distance. The chisel marks are very small and it would be possible to miss them if you hadn't seen similar marks in the past.

I looked for this thoroughly, and there is no granite coping on the building. I also looked for chiseled crosses anywhere near the sidewalk, but there were none.

Went to look for it. Didn't have enough time to find it. Will return soon.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in October 1996.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
