Was heading to the Devils vs Rangers hockey game at the Prudential Center. I got to the train station a few minutes early, so I took a look and quickly located the benchmark. BTW - Go DEVILS! (Devils victorious - 6-3).

Found it while the other half was getting her daily fix at the nearby Starbucks.

Found it.®

N 41° 03.432 W 074° 08.520

Found easily. Disk somewhat pitted.

Second of three marks found during my little trip into Ramsey. Easier to spot than the nearby chiseled cross.

What is this Ramsey Press they speak of? I think Ramsey Press moved to Mahwah, if Google Local is any indication. Anyway, I took a look and saw the benchmark very quickly. In over 70 years, they never moved the train tracks or the road.

Right across the tracks from the Ramsey train station. As I looked for this and the chiseled cross on the front of the same building at least 5 trains came by.

Benchmark is in good shape.

Again, the GPS put me southeast by about 160+ feet. when I reviewed the original information, I knew exactly where it was...should've suspected it was there from the start!

Found this one while on a train traveling from NYC. It seems to be in good condition. Will try to get some pictures.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
