Lovely way to reuse an old building. Now an art gallery.

Found this benchmark by accident, while blindly looking for a Geocache we thought was nearby. Mark's in great condition, easy to read and find.

Goex pointed it out to me while caching in Warwick.

walked right by it, goex showed it to me

In the dark with Lost Patrol

This is the first one that I've found that wasn't laying flat.

Our first Benchmark, but definitely not our last. This is a great way to teach the kids about geography, maps and surveying.

We walked around the old Baptist church first before I decided to acutally look at the GPS, then we strolled over to the clocktower.

No one has found this in a while so I figured we might as well take a look since we just started checking out benchmarks.

In the area for the weekend for my daughter's Horse event (Pollocrosse). Took some time to find the local markers

I see Zhanna got there first, and there are no photos that I took that will show anything different than what she posted. It's a surprising commercial use for an old church, though.

I saw that someone has already rediscovered this Benchmark, but more than one can log a visit. I was in by way of Bellvale,NY from Greenwood Lake, where I found another mark. Took a picture and hope to get those developed soon and posted. peace

I was in Warwick for a day of wine-tasting and touring the countryside with my parents. I happened to notice this mark while we were stopped on Main Street. My father was willing to pull over into the adjacent parking lot, and he even came along with me as I recorded the coordinates and took my photos. The disk is in good condition, especially for such an old mark. This building has made a neat transformation from an old church into commercial space; it now houses a video store and antique market, among other businesses.

A report on the condition of this mark was submitted to NGS, along with the following recovery note:

Recovered in good condition. The Methodist Church is now the Clocktower Building. Autonomous (non-corrected) handheld GPS coordinates for the station are 41 15 29.40(N) 074 21 30.96(W).

Documented History (by the NGS)

1/1/1903 by USGS (MONUMENTED)
1/1/1942 by NGS (GOOD)
DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1942 AT WARWICK. A U.S.G.S. DISK SET VERTICALLY IN THE EAST END OF THE SOUTHEAST STONE FOUNDATION OF THE METHODIST CHURCH, 3.0 FEET ABOVE THE SIDEWALK, 45 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE MAIN STREET.

Control Text

 • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
 • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
 • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
 • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
 • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
