Found by description. It's easy to find!

I've driven past this many times and never knew what it was until today.

Pretty well preserved for a 71 year old! Its long history and suitability for GPS observation have made this station more useful than most. It is part of the "GPS on Benchmark" dataset that fixes the shape of the geoid (sea level surface) in the US.

If you've found this one, you can take a short hike down the abandoned railroad right of way across the street and find the LY0706 rivet, too.

This was our first benchmark, about 0.25 mile from our location. This was our entry into cashe/benchmark hunting. The kids had a great time, and it got us out of the house for a while on a cold day! The benchmark was easy to find, as it has been staked by the local surveyers.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by GPS observations and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in May 1999.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The X, Y, and Z were computed from the position and the ellipsoidal ht.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The ellipsoidal height was determined by GPS observations and is referenced to NAD 83.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
