I had a rare opportunity to visit this property as a guest of a private party. The present owner of the land showed me where the station mark and the azimuth mark are. He was not aware of the existence of the reference marks, and it started to rain, so I did not pursue those. The station mark is not now normally available because is is buried under a few inches of gravel in a parking lot by the old gate location. A maintainence person would have to scrape the gravel for you.
The azimuth mark is still at ground level, although it may get covered by leaves and dirt, and is at the edge of the field as described, beyond the east end of a pond, a little into the woods.
The property is now called The Country Place Conference and Retreat Center. This is the second owner after Mr. Bufalino. The house in the description still exists as the west end of what now functions as the kitchen of the retreat. The new gate is close to the location of the old gate in the description. There are traces of the foundations of the shed described if you know what you are looking for.
This property is perhaps a little more accesible to the public than it was a decade ago. Go the the new house/office at the far end of the driveway and someone may let you stroll the grounds - it is a lovely place. The Country Place has a website for more information.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in July 1986.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
