As described, station is 22.5 feet southwest from the northwest corner of the base of a sign, and 8 inches below ground. The divot with the pink surveyors' tape sticking out gives it away. Ground is defrosted, and no one was at the day care center this morning. RM3 is located as described. Azimuth marker located per description. (About halfway between the witness post, and the rock wall, about 4 inches below the surface.) Reference Mark 5 located previously. It is also LY2090, and LY2283 RM5

We took a quick trip up Route 209 for this one after locating a few benchmarks near the Pike County Courthouse. Only reference mark 3 was searched for and located at this time. Its location was described well by 4Fun & Dog. The disk is in excellent condition and all markings are legible.

RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1980 (RGP) THE STATION MARK WAS FOUND AS DESCRIBED, HOWEVER UPON REMOVING THE SURFACE MARK, THE SUB-SURFACE DISK WAS FOUND IN GOOD CONDITION BUT IN A SLIGHT DIFFERENT LOCATION FROM THE SURFACE DISK. THE SURFACE DISK MUST HAVE BEEN HIT DURING THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE EVERGREEN RESTAURANT. A NEW SURFACE MARK WAS SET DIRECT OVER THE OLD SUB-SURFACE DISK. A COMPLETE NEW SET OF HORIZONTAL ANGLES AND DISTANCES WERE THEN TAKEN FROM THE RE-ESTABLISHED POINT. THE NEW MONUMENT CONSISTS OF A STANDARD DISK SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH SQUARE CONCRETE POST STAMPED FORD 1959 1980, ABOUT 4-INCHES BELOW THE SURFACE AND ALL OF THE REFERENCE MEASUREMENTS REMAIN THE SAME AS PREVIOUSLY STATED.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in September 1999.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.) The vertical order pertains to the superseded datum.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
