It is difficult to find now. It is completely overgrown. I used shorbird's photo to know where it is, and to know where to start looking through the dense brush. I couldn't get a good photo because I was sticking the camera into the brush.

It was easier to find in January with the vegetation dormant.

We found this one quickly and in good shape!

Thanks to Rscarr, this was a relatively easy benchmark find. Mark was found exactly as indicated by Rscarr. I'll be logging this one as one of the oldest in Butler county for the benchmark contest.

There is no longer a railroad station at Keisters. The dirt-road crossing has been replaced by paved blacktop, but it's still a country road. The mark is about 3 feet off the east berm and on the property of William Patterson. A neighbor, Cynthia Carrara, was most helpful in locating the mark.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
