N 41° 23.742 W 088° 19.915

Found while on a bike ride - like those before me. Datasheet says that the mark is set in top of a concrete monument. No concrete here unless it is underground. 2006 photos by gpsboater seem to indicate that maybe the concrete was removed - no grass around the mark.

lemom16, lemon16 and I saw this at the end of our bike ride from McKinley Woods. It wasn't until we got home that I realized it was a benchmark.

We didn't have the camera on our first trip here but here's a pic we took on 2/13/11.

We didn't have the camera on our first trip here but here's another picture we took on 2/13/11.

Bumped into this while bike riding along the I & M Canal today. Came back with the GPS and Camera to log the find. This is a pretty well documented Benchmark, but they are still fun to locate!

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
