So happy to locate this one while here doing some caching. I will post when I get back home. Cool

I was practicing social distancing while visiting some benchmark locations in the Quad Cities today. I love finding benchmarks at the base of monuments. This was a quick find. All is well here.

Looking south at the northeast face of Moline city hall, the mark is at the base of the light pole that is hard against the near side of the steps, not the light pole in the foreground.

The benchmark was easy to find. Getting some coordinates wasn't as easy, with the buildings bouncing signals to and fro.

I quit. 0 for 3 today, all of which others have found. At least S10 had the same problem the first time - my GPS led me to the middle of the street.

N 40° 30.312 W 090° 30.845

Bad day for finding caches, but I did find a couple of benchmarks including this one.

First of four today.
This is my second try, my other gps took me to middle of street when I looked for this last month.

Visited City Hall tonight with my helper. There has been some modification to the front of the building over the years. The description notes a benchmark in the top of a banister that no longer seems to be present. The second marker, at the base of the lamp, is present.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
