Area where tank once stood is now a city parking lot and river walk area. The water tank Saidgeoteam is referring to is probably an old fire control water tank located on a building between 2nd and 3rd street located one block up. I was doing research at the Linn County Historical Museum, which by the way was in fact located at the same spot near where the tank was, their building was also turned into the parking lot.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1934 (CAS) STATION IS THE CENTER OF THE SMALL ENCLOSURE ON TOP OF THE LARGE GAS TANK OF THE CEDAR RAPIDS GAS COMPANY. THE TANK IS ABOUT 50 FEET IN DIAMETER AND IS ABOUT 100 FEET HIGH. IT HAS 12 SIDES AND IS BUILT UP IN PANELS. THE TOP OF THE TANK IS ROUNDED INTO A FLAT DOME AND HAS A CIRCULAR VENTILATOR ABOUT 3 FEET IN DIAMETER AT THE CENTER. THE TANK IS AT THE S CORNER OF 8TH AVENUE, SE AND 1ST STREET, SE, AND IS ON THE NE BANK OF CEDAR RIVER ABOUT MIDWAY BETWEEN THE CHICAGO, MILWAUKEE, AND ST. PAUL RAILROAD BRIDGE AND THE 8TH AVENUE BRIDGE.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in May 1999.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
