Bench Mark S 74 was recovered in good condition.

This mark is approximately 2.4 miles east of Encampment along Wyoming Highway 70. It is on the outside of a curve, 35 feet south of a fenceline, 117 feet south of the centerline of WY 70, and is at Milepost 55.1 of WY 70.

The description stating that this is "250 feet north of the most southerly point of the curve" is for the old road alignment, and no longer applies.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1934 2.4 MI W FROM ENCAMPMENT. 2.4 MILES WEST ALONG THE SLATER ROAD FROM ENCAMPMENT, AT THE APPROXIMATE FOCAL POINT OF A SEMI-CIRCULAR CURVE, 250 FEET NORTH OF THE MOST SOUTHERLY POINT OF THE CURVE, IN THE TOP OF THE SOUTHEAST END OF THE EAST ONE OF TWO LARGE GRANITE BOULDERS, AND 2.8 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND. A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED S 74 1934.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
