DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1949 (DHK) THE STATION IS LOCATED ON THE HIGHEST POINT OF WHAT IS LOCALLY KNOWN AS SOMBER HILL. ABOUT 5.5 MILES AIR LINE NORTH OF THE WYOMING-COLORADO STATE LINE. ABOUT 7.0 MILES AIR LINE EAST OF THE ALBANY-CARBON COUNTY LINE. AND ABOUT 2.0 MILES AIR LINE WEST-SOUTHWEST OF THE FOXPARK RANGER STATION. THE STATION MARK IS SET ABOUT 20 YARDS EAST-SOUTHEAST OF A CIRCULAR DRIVE, IN A DEPRESSION 8 INCHES BELOW THE SURFACE OF THE GROUND LEVEL AND IS STAMPED, SOMBER 1949. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 IS ABOUT THE SAME ELEVATION AS THE STATION, PROJECTS 3 INCHES AND IS STAMPED, SOMBER NO 1 1949. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 IS ABOUT 4 FEET LOWER THAN THE STATION, PROJECTS 3-1/2 FEET AND IS STAMPED, SOMBER NO 2 1949. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE JUNCTION OF STATE HIGHWAYS 230 AND 130, 2.0 MILES WEST OF LARAMIE. TAKE THE LEFT FORK STATE HIGHWAY 230 FOR 33.7 MILES TO A CROSSROAD AND SIGN, FOXPARK 2. TURN RIGHT AND FOLLOW GRADED ROAD FOR 1.15 MILES TO A CROSSROAD (THIS POINT IS 0.25 MILE BEFORE REACHING FOXPARK RANGER STATION). TURN LEFT ON WOODS ROAD AND FOLLOW THE MAIN ROAD FOR 3.25 MILES TO THE CIRCULAR DRIVE AND THE STATION AS DESCRIBED ABOVE. A 20 YARD PACK.

STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 55 KM (34.15 MI) SOUTHWEST OF LARAMIE, 9 KM (5.60 MI) NORTH OF THE WYOMING-COLORADO STATE LINE, 3 KM (1.85 MI) WEST-SOUTHWEST OF FOXPARK, IN THE MEDICINE BOW NATIONAL FOREST, ON SOMBER HILL, ON A SMALL ROCKY NORTHWEST-SOUTHEAST HUMP, IN THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF SECTION 30, T 13 N, R 78 W. OWNERSHIP--US DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE. TO REACH FROM THE JUNCTION OF INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 80 AND STATE HIGHWAYS 130, 230 (EXIT 311) ON THE WEST SIDE OF LARAMIE, GO WEST ON HIGHWAYS 130 AND 230 FOR 1.23 KM (0.75 MI) TO THE JUNCTION OF 130 ON THE RIGHT.   • The horizontal coordinates were established by GPS observations and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in October 1994.
  • The orthometric height was determined by GPS observations and a high-resolution geoid model.
  • The X, Y, and Z were computed from the position and the ellipsoidal ht.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The ellipsoidal height was determined by GPS observations and is referenced to NAD 83.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
