DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1949 (DHK) THE STATION IS LOCATED JUST NORTH OF THE FOREST SERVICE LOOKOUT HOUSE ON THE HIGHEST POINT OF WHAT IS LOCALLY KNOWN AS BLACKHALL MOUNTAIN. ABOUT 13.5 MILES AIR LINE SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF ENCAMPMENT. AND ABOUT 2 MILES AIR LINE NORTH OF THE WYOMING-COLORADO STATE LINE. THE STATION MARK IS SET FLUSH WITH THE GROUND AND IS STAMPED, BLACKHALL 1949. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 IS APPROXIMATELY 3 FEET LOWER THAN THE STATION MARK, ON THE WEST RIM OF MOUNTAIN, FLUSH WITH THE GROUND, AND STAMPED, BLACKHALL NO 1 1949. REFERENCE MARK IS A U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY BENCH MARK SET IN BEDROCK OUTCROP, 2 FEET NORTH OF THE NORTH SIDE OF THE LOOKOUT HOUSE, PROJECTS 10 INCHES AND STAMPED, VA 10980. THE AZIMUTH MARK IS 7 PACES EAST OF A TRIANGLE BLAZE AND AZ CARVED ON TREE, 4 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTER LINE OF ROAD, PROJECTS 14 INCHES AND STAMPED, BLACKHALL 1949. TO REACH THE STATION FROM RIVERSIDE, WYOMING, GO EAST ON STATE HIGHWAY 230 FOR 1.5 MILES TO A DIRT ROAD LEADING SOUTH AT CATTLE GUARD--TURN RIGHT, SOUTH, FOR 1.1 MILES TO FORK. TAKE RIGHT FORK FOR 1.4 MILES TO FORK--TAKE RIGHT FORK FOR 1.8 MILES TO FORK. TAKE LEFT FORK FOR 0.4 MILE TO FORK--TAKE LEFT FORK FOR 1.0 MILE TO FORK--TAKE LEFT FORK FOR 2.3 MILES TO GATE AND SIGN, ENTERING MEDICINE BOW NATIONAL FOREST. PASS THROUGH GATE AND CONTINUE 0.4 MILE TO FORK. TAKE LEFT FORK AND FOLLOW MAIN ROAD SOUTHERLY FOR ABOUT 9.0 MILES TO THE AZIMUTH ON THE LEFT, NORTH, AS DESCRIBED ABOVE--CONTINUE 1.3 MILES TO THE END OF TRUCK TRAVEL--PACK SOUTH AND WEST ALONG FOOT TRAIL TO THE HIGHEST POINT AND STATION. A 10-MINUTE PACK. NOTE--IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO USE A TRUCK WITH HIGH CLEARANCE AND EXTRA LOW GEAR OR A 4 WHEEL DRIVE TRUCK, FOR THE LAST 10 MILES OF THE ROAD IS ROUGH, ROCKY AND VERY SIDELING IN SEVERAL PLACES.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in January 1997.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
