Unfortunately the church was struck by lighting and has burned down. I wish I could have seen it, it certainly looked like it was beautiful.

Confirm WAKE.

I can see this one from my house. The first picture is from there over my neighbors roof. The second from Common Street in front of the church.

01/01/1934 by CGS (FIRST OBSERVED)
DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1934 (FLP) THE STATION IS THE SPIRE OF THE WAKEFIELD FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH WHICH IS LOCATED ON THE W SIDE OF COMMON STREET BETWEEN YALE AND LAFAYETTE AVENUES. THE CHURCH WAS ERECTED OF WOOD IN 1871 AND WAS PAINTED GRAY IN 1934. A SQUARE TOWER RISES FROM THE NE CORNER OF THE BUILDING. THE SQUARE BELFRY HAS A LARGE ROMANESQUE STYLE WINDOW IN EACH FACE. THE SPIRE IS OCTAGONAL IN PLAN AND RISES TO A HEIGHT OF 190 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND. TWO CIRCULAR BANDS DIVIDE THE SPIRE INTO THREE PARTS WHICH ADDS TO ITS CONSPICUOUSNESS. THE STATION IS THE BASE OF THE VERTICAL SHAFT OF THE WEATHER VANE AT THE APEX OF THE SPIRE.

RECOVERY NOTE BY MASSACHUSETTS GEODETIC SURVEY 1982 (WJK) THE STATION WAS RECOVERED AT THIS DATE. THE CHURCH SPIRE WAS RECOVERED IN GOOD CONDITION. DESCRIBED BY W.J. KENNEDY, MAGS.

  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
