DESCRIBED BY MASSACHUSETTS GEODETIC SURVEY 1936 AN OCCUPIED SECOND-ORDER STATION MARKED BY A 1/4-INCH DRILL HOLE IN TOP OF 8-INCH SQUARE GRANITE MONUMENT MARKED WITH INCISED LETTERS B.W.W. AT GROUND LEVEL. LOCATED ON SUMMIT OF HILL N OF HUNTING LANE IN NORTHERN PART OF TOWN OF SHERBORN 1.5 MILES NW OF CENTER. STATION IS JUST W OF THE SITE OF A FORMER TOWER NOW DESTROYED ON WHICH WAS THE MASSACHUSETTS STATE STATION BRUSH HILL TOWER, 1893. STATION IS 11.5 FEET SW FROM ANCHOR IN ROCK AT NW CORNER OF OLD TOWER, AND 15.5 FEET NW FROM ANCHOR AT OLD SW CORNER. REFERENCE MARKS ARE TWO DRILL HOLES IN FLAT BOULDERS, WITH ARROWS, LOCATED FROM STATION AS FOLLOWS-- REFERENCE MARK NO.1, 3/4-INCH DRILL HOLE, 30.00 FEET, IN GEODETIC AZIMUTH 253 DEG 04 MIN 59 SEC. REFERENCE MARK NO.2, 7/8-INCH DRILL HOLE, 21.20 FEET, IN GEODETIC AZIMUTH 308 DEG 19 MIN 06 SEC. WITNESS MARK IS A GATE ROD EXTENDING 6 INCHES ABOVE A 3-FOOT MOUND ON COVERED RESERVOIR 75.5 FEET SE FROM STATION. FACE OF NATURAL CRACK IN SIDE OF LARGE BOULDER 51.5 FEET NE FROM STATION. AZIMUTH MARK IS CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH SPIRE, FRAMINGHAM CENTER, IN GEODETIC AZIMUTH 144 DEG 14 MIN 54 SEC FROM STATION. TO REACH STATION FROM NORTHERN JUNCTION OF HIGHWAY 16 AND HIGHWAY 27, MAIN STREET, GO 1000 FEET N ON MAIN STREET, THEN GO W ON HUNTING LANE FOR 1 MILE. JUST W OF THE BEND IS A STONE WALL RUNNING NE UP BRUSH HILL. TAKE PATH FOLLOWING W SIDE OF WALL FOR 225 FEET, CROSS WALL AND FOLLOW PATH 325 FEET E TO STATION. A 12-FOOT TOWER AFFORDS A GOOD VIEW IN ALL DIRECTIONS.

RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1980 (CLN) THE STATION MARK AND THE TWO DRILL HOLES USED FOR REFERENCE MARKS WERE RECOVERED IN GOOD CONDITION. ROCKS WERE PILED AROUND THE MARKS TO HELP IN THE RECOVERY OF THE MARKS. THE 1936 DESCRIPTION IS ADEQUATE FOR RECOVERING THE STATION.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1998.
  • The orthometric height was scaled from a topographic map.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
