Found STATION,RM#1, WM#2 and another WM that the 1/4" rod is broken off. I think the WM's that were on the ground got hit sometime,the one I found that was broken was also tipped so the rod would have been on about a 45 degree angle. I guess I forgot to take a picture of the broken WM. I could not find the last WM.

DESCRIBED BY MASSACHUSETTS GEODETIC SURVEY 1941 LOCATED IN THE NW SECTION OF FITCHBURG AT THE TOP OF A ROCK HILL IN PASTURE LAND. 42 FEET E OF A STONE WALL, 161 FEET NE OF THE INTERSECTION OF A STONE WALL AND BARWAY AND 118 FEET SE OF THE INTERSECTION OF ANOTHER WALL. THE STATION IS MARKED BY A FITCHBURG GEODETIC SURVEY DISK STAMPED COSTELLO 3, 1940, AND SET IN A ROCK 3 FEET BY 3 FEET. REFERENCE MARK--ONE MASS. DEPT. OF PUBLIC WORKS REFERENCE-MARK DISK STAMPED AND LOCATED AS FOLLOWS-- COSTELLO 3, 1940 NO. 1 - SET IN A SMALL ROCK NEARLY FLUSH WITH THE GROUND. WITNESS MARKS--THREE WITNESS MARKS CONSISTING OF 1/4-INCH RODS SET IN LEAD AND PROTRUDING ABOUT 1/2-INCH ARE LOCATED AS FOLLOWS-- W.M. NO. 1 - SET IN A SMALL ROCK. W.M. NO. 2 - SET IN A LARGE ROCK ON TOP OF A WALL. W.M. NO. 3 - SET IN A SMALL ROCK. AZIMUTH MARK--WATATIC FIRE TOWER. TO REACH STATION FROM THE ROLLSTONE MONUMENT ON ROUTES 2 AND 12 PROCEED W FOR 2.7 MILES TURN RIGHT ON CASWELL ROAD FOR 0.35 MILE, TURN RIGHT THROUGH BARWAY AND FOLLOW ROUGH ROAD FOR 0.20 MILE TO STONE WALL. THE STATION IS AT THE TOP OF A HILL, 330 FEET PLUS OR MINUS TO THE LEFT.

RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1959 (JJC) THE STATION WAS RECOVERED AS DESCRIBED AND FOUND TO BE IN GOOD CONDITION. NO SEARCH WAS MADE FOR THE REFERENCE MARK AT THIS DATE.

  • The orthometric height was scaled from a topographic map.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
