Recovered in good condition at N 42 59.904 W 078 11.275. Interestingly enough, none of the previous pictures show this benchmark. Instead, they show an obelisk which does not fit the description of the benchmark and which is about 200 feet away from the actual benchmark.

Found in good condition like everyone else....

Decided that since I was in the area this morning I would locate this benchmark. As many times as I have been here before I never took notice of this marker or the other obelisk commemorating the American-Canadian border that sits in the same lawn of the former Batavia City Hall.

Found this one while on some business at the court house.

On the way to the postoffice I thought I would locate a benchmark. This is my first. ceedee

My son and I (teamwerk) visited this marker this afternoon taking advantage of a rare 55 degree January day in New York. This was the first benchmark that we have looked for.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
