I've been here a couple of times, didn't notice the benchmark at all.

My first benchmark find.

Benchmark and building both in good shape

been by this one many many times

Found on Aug 11, this was a great way to introduce a group of Boy Scouts to the sport. We did three caches the same day and released a travel bug.

Recovered as described, in good condition.

I can't tell you how many times I have walked/biked/driven past this location and had no idea the benchmark was here.

Found this bench mark for mine and junior camper couples first bench mark. quick find and attempted to explain to 8 year old camper couple what a bench mark was. Dont really think she cared. LOL

Had to go pay taxes today at Eason Hall so I walked over and checked out the benchmark. Used to be the front of the old firehall.

An easy find! Carrie was driving around the block (she had forgotten she wanted to go to McDonald's to get a breakfast sandwich) and I was watching the buildings for the mark, since I knew it was around there somewhere. I spotted it, Carrie stopped the car, and I snapped the picture. Of course, it didn't come out very well. Oh well!

I checked out this (my first) benchmark today when I went to the CU next door to make a deposit. I know it is an easy one, but I had to start somewhere.

Checked this out today on the way to the home. I was here with my friend Bonnie last winter and didn't notice it.

This was the easiest one I have found to date. Even my wife spotted it right from the car!

The mark itself

It was very easy to spot from the car. We parked right in front of it so we could get a good look.

Easy find. Disk is in good shape and clearly visible from the street.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in November 1993. WARNING-Repeat measurements at this control monument indicate possible vertical movement.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
