Go up the steps to read an Erie Seaways Trail sign regarding the War of 1812 and how they transported boats over the sandbar that was here in the channel in order to get them into what is now the bay.

Saw this one today in very good condition.

Visiting from San Diego for GeoWoodstock IX, we did this benchmark while doing the nearby Benchmark Challenge geocache. Photos will have to wait until we return home.

Taking some photo's of the SS Presque Isle and discovered I captured this bm.

I remember whizzing by here in my grandfathers tri hull MFG with the Mercury motor bigger than me. Of course that boat has long been gone. I admit it, we made a wake.

Found this BM while walking to do PORT of ERIE multi-cache...I wonder if the coast guard monitors the area with the mounted globe servo camera on tower. Big brother is watching. Quite a lot of sea gulls nearby each with their own BMs

01/01/1975 by USLS (FIRST OBSERVED)
DESCRIBED BY US LAKE SURVEY 1975 (WAB) THE REAR RANGE FOR THE ERIE HARBOR ENTRANCE CHANNEL OUTER APPROACH, LOCATED ON THE SOUTHERN SIDE OF THE CHANNEL. THE LIGHT CONSISTS OF A FIXED GREEN LIGHT ON A STEEL SKELETON LIGHT TOWER. AND ECCENTRIC TO THE CENTERLINE OF THE STEEL SKELETON STRUCTURE, CENTERLINE WHICH WAS THE POINT OF INTERSECT.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in January 1999. No horizontal observational check was made to the station.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
