Spotted this one as we were driving around Erie today. Had to mark the location and see if the spire was a bm and it was.

Out spotting a few bm's to finish up the bm challenge cache. Church still standing.

Spotted this while caching in the area today.

Found it.

Didn't even bring a gps...I went to school here as a child.....still one of my favorite church steeples in Erie.

Went to this one today during my lunch.

Out today checking benchmarks with The Goonies 7 and GoonieNanny.

Another Erie area landmark.

Out finding caches and benchmarks with Goonie Nanny and PopPop55k. Made a slight detour on our route to get a pic of this one. Been to this church several times for weddings, etc.

We saw this one while caching in the area. Actually, we've seen it many times but are now logging it.

Visited this Spire Benchmark twice today as I returned to find a cache in the park next door.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1956 (HJB) LOCATED IN ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA, AT THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF SASSAFRAS AND W. 24TH STREETS. THE TALL SPIRE OF ST. JOSEPHS CATHOLIC CHURCH. ERECTED IN 1882.

RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1975 (WAB) STATION WAS RECOVERED IN GOOD CONDITION AS DESCRIBED. AIRLINE DISTANCE AND DIRECTION FROM NEAREST TOWN AT ERIE, PA.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in January 1999.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
