DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1933 (CIA) ABOUT 26 MILES WEST OF BIG PINEY, IN SEC. 11, T. 30 N., R. 116 W. ON HIGH MOUNTAIN PEAK KNOWN AS WYOMING PEAK, 11,400 FEET IN ELEVATION. TO REACH FROM BIG PINEY, GO NORTH FROM BURNEY AND CO.S STORE ON STATE HIGHWAY 287 0.15 MILE, TURN LEFT OFF HIGHWAY AND GO WEST 1.0 MILE, TAKE LEFT FORK AND GO 0.8 MILE TO T-FORK. TURN RIGHT AND FOLLOW MAIN-TRAVELED ROAD 4.25 MILES, TAKE RIGHT FORK (GRADED ROAD) AND GO 4.55 MILES, TAKE RIGHT FORK AT SIGN BOARD READING MIDDLE PINEY LAKE 17.0 MI. AND GO 0.15 MILE, THEN TO RIGHT ON MAIN ROAD 4.6 MILES, THEN RIGHT AT OLD LOG SCHOOLHOUSE AND GO 5.6 MILES ON MAIN ROAD TO FOREST BOUNDARY LINE AND SIGN READING WYOMING PEAK 11 MI. CONTINUE 1.6 MILES, THEN FOLLOW LEFT FORK 0.15 MILE, RIGHT FORK (MAIN ROAD) 0.3 MILE, TAKE LEFT FORK AT SIGN READING MIDDLE PINEY LAKE 4 MI, AND GO 0.6 MILE TO CROSSROADS, CONTINUE STRAIGHT AHEAD 0.5 MILE, THEN ALONG RIGHT FORK 1.7 MILES TO GOOD CAMP GROUND. FROM HERE CROSS CREEK AND FOLLOW ROAD ALONG RIGHT SIDE OF CREEK TO LAKE, FOLLOW PACK TRAIL ALONG LEFT SIDE OF LAKE, CROSS CREEK AT THE HEAD OF LAKE AND FOLLOW WELL-BLAZED TRAIL TO FORK ON SIDE OF STEEP HILL WITH SMALL TRIANGLE BLAZED ON DRY POST TO THE RIGHT OF TRAIL. TAKE RIGHT FORK (TOP OF WYOMING PEAK CAN BE SEEN STRAIGHT AHEAD) AND GO ABOUT 1/4 MILE, TAKE LEFT FORK JUST AFTER CROSSING CREEK AND FOLLOW TRAIL UP DRAW TO ITS HEAD (WHICH IS BETWEEN WYOMING PEAK AND ANOTHER PEAK TO THE LEFT OF WYOMING PEAK). AFTER REACHING HEAD OF DRAW TURN RIGHT ONTO RIDGE, THEN LEFT UP RIDGE TO PEAK. WYOMING PEAK HAS A LARGE ROCK CAIRN AND FOREST SERVICE TELEPHONE ON TOP, A 3-HOURS PACK FROM THE CAMP GROUNDS WITH HORSES. STATION IS 21 FEET NORTHEAST OF FOREST SERVICE TELEPHONE, AND APPROXIMATELY 1/2 MILE NORTHEAST OF LOWER PEAK. SURFACE MARK IS STANDARD DISK STATION MARK IN ROCK. REFERENCE MARKS ARE STANDARD REFERENCE DISKS IN BOULDERS. NO. 1 IS 8.965 METERS (29.41 FEET) FROM STATION. NO. 2 IS 21.43 METERS (70.31 FEET) FROM STATION. BEARING FROM STATION TO PEAK, DISTANT ABOUT 1/2 MILE TO SOUTHWEST IS S 15 DEG 15 MIN W. AND TO BEACON WEST OF STATION TULSA S 38 DEG 16 MIN E. ELEVATION--3,480.1 METERS (11,418 FEET).

RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1946 (CL) THE STATION WAS FOUND AS DESCRIBED AND ALL THE MARKS ARE IN GOOD CONDITION. IT IS ON THE HIGHEST PEAK ON THE RANGE BETWEEN BIG PINEY AND AFTON. IT IS A STANDARD DISK STAMPED WYOMING PEAK 1933, SET IN A ROCK OUTCROP PROJECTING ABOUT 2 INCHES. IT IS ON THE HIGHEST PART OF THE MOUNTAIN AND 1-1/2 FEET EAST OF THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF THE CABIN. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 IS A STANDARD DISK STAMPED WYOMING PEAK NO. 1 1933, SET IN ROCK OUTCROP PROJECTING ABOUT 3 INCHES. IT IS 10 FEET SOUTH OF THE CENTER OF THE CABIN, AND ABOUT 1 FOOT LOWER THAN THE STATION. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 IS A STANDARD DISK STAMPED WYOMING PEAK NO. 2 1933, SET IN ROCK OUTCROP FLUSH WITH THE ROCK SLIDE. IT IS 25 FEET WEST OF THE WALK, 19 FEET NORTHWEST OF A GUY WIRE, AND ABOUT 6 FEET LOWER THAN THE STATION. REFERENCE MARK NO. 3 IS A STANDARD DISK STAMPED WYOMING PEAK NO. 3 1946, SET IN A BURIED BOULDER, ABOUT 1 FOOT UNDER THE ROCKS. IT IS AT NORTH EDGE OF THE HORSE TRAIL, AND ABOUT 6 FEET LOWER THAN THE STATION. THERE IS A U.S.G.S. MARK WITH NO STAMPING ON IT SET IN A ROCK OUTCROP PROJECTING ABOUT 2 INCHES. IT IS 1 FOOT NORTH OF THE CENTER OF THE CABIN. TO REACH THE STATION FROM AFTON GO SOUTH ON HIGHWAY 89 FOR 15.0 MILES TO NEAR THE TOP OF A LONG HILL. TURN LEFT (EAST) ON A ONE-TRACK ROAD AND GO 25 MILES TO A FORK, TAKE THE LEFT FORK STRAIGHT AHEAD FOR 7.0 MILES TO A SIGN ON THE RIGHT HORSE TRAIL. TURN RIGHT ON HORSE TRAIL, AND GO SOUTHEAST FOR ABOUT 3.0 MILES TO THE HIGHEST PEAK AND THE STATION AS DESCRIBED ABOVE.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in January 1997.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
