Towards Goddards Pond (?)

A dreary day to cache, but a wonderful day to benchmark! This one is across the street from Goddard's Pond, a wonderful place to skate in the winter. Used to reside on Marshall Ave., so Doogie was happy to be back home. Benchmarking in 'da hood is the best!

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1943 1.2 MI S FROM BATH. 1.2 MILES SOUTH ALONG STATE HIGHWAY 209 FROM THE COUNTY COURTHOUSE AT BATH, SAGADAHOC COUNTY, 80 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE JUNCTION OF MARSHALL STREET, 28.6 FEET WEST OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE HIGHWAY, 4.6 FEET NORTH OF A SMALL PINE TREE, IN THE EAST END OF A HIGH ROCK LEDGE, AND ABOUT 6 FEET HIGHER THAN THE HIGHWAY. A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED A 97 1943.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
