We hiked up to the fort, found the benchmark and the Geocache

great place to visit.

Our first logged benchmark.

We found it on the way to a nearby cache. Wish people wouldn't try to hammer these out of their locations, makes them very hard to read.

This one is hard to miss!

Found this benchmark on our way to a nearby geocache.
Marker is difficult to read.

Found this while searching for Fort Baldwin Cache.
Have seen a lot of these towers along the coast. One has even been made into a house.

I found this one by mistake, while searching for a nearby geocache (which I didn't find). This benchmark is very banged up; it appears as if folks have been hammering at it, attempting to pry it off the tower on which the mark is located, etc.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
