HaleStorm and I were out finding some benchmarks.

I've been to this cemetery a few times but never noticed this benchmark.

Found as described. I agree with previous finder that RM1 is located somewhere under a pretty dense evergreen tree. Lots of debris near fence line as well.

My brother and I searched for multiple benchmarks around where we live and decided to give this one a try. This was an easy find, actually disappointing. It is visible from the road, projects above ground about 6 inches, and is in short grass.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1939 (PLB) LOCATED IN OGDEN TOWNSHIP ABOUT 2-1/2 MILES WEST-SOUTHWEST OF ELMGROVE, 1.0 MILE SOUTHEAST OF SPENCERPORT, ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF PLEASANT HILL CEMETERY, AT THE EASTERN END OF OGDEN CENTER ROAD, 24 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE ROAD, IN A V FORMED BY THE PAVING OF THE ROADS, AND 47.5 FEET SOUTH OF THE CEMETERY FENCE. SURFACE, UNDERGROUND AND REFERENCE MARKS ARE STANDARD BRONZE DISKS SET IN CONCRETE. REFERENCE MARK NO.1 IS 20.0 FEET EAST OF THE EAST GATE OF THE CEMETERY, AND 2-1/2 FEET SOUTH OF THE CEMETERY FENCE. REFERENCE MARK NO.2 IS 40 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE ROAD, 25 FEET EAST OF THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF THE CEMETERY FENCE AND 2-1/2 FEET SOUTH OF THE CEMETERY FENCE. 383-3 (N.Y. GEOD. S.), IS USED AS AN AZIMUTH MARK. HEIGHT OF LIGHT ABOVE STATION MARK 14 METERS.

RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1969 (RMB) THE STATION AND REFERENCE MARKS 1 AND 2 WERE RECOVERED AS DESCRIBED. THE DISTANCE AND DIRECTION TO BOTH REFERENCE MARKS CHECKED. 383-3 (NYGS) USED AS AN AZIMUTH MARK IS NO LONGER VISIBLE FROM THE GROUND. A NEW AZIMUTH WAS ESTABLISHED AT THIS TIME. DUE TO CHANGES A COMPLETE NEW DESCRIPTION FOLLOWS. STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 9-1/4 MILES EAST-SOUTHEAST OF BROCKPORT, 5 MILES SOUTHWEST OF GREECE, 2 MILES SOUTHEAST OF SPENCERPORT AND ON PROPERTY OWNED BY THE COUNTY. IT IS 119 FEET EAST-SOUTHEAST OF CENTER OF THE WEST ENTRANCE TO CEMETERY, 103 FEET WEST-SOUTHWEST OF CENTER OF THE EAST ENTRANCE, 59 FEET SOUTHEAST OF POWER POLE 42, 47 FEET SOUTH OF THE FENCE AROUND THE CEMETERY, 28 FEET NORTH OF CENTER OF OGDEN CENTER ROAD AND ACROSS THE ROAD FROM HOUSE 25. RM 1, STAMPED WOODCHUCK NO 1 1939 IS SET IN A SQUARE CONCRETE POST WHICH PROJECTS ABOUT 2 INCHES. IT IS 44 FEET WEST OF POWER POLE 43, 26 FEET EAST OF THE EAST ENTRANCE TO CEMETERY AND 2.6 FEET SOUTH OF THE FENCE.   • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in January 1999.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
