DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1934 2.9 MI W FROM ORCHARD. ABOUT 2.9 MILES WEST ALONG THE OREGON SHORT LINE RR FROM ORCHARD, ADA COUNTY, IDAHO, 7 POLES EAST OF MILE POLE 426, 3 POLES WEST FROM THE SEMAPHORE AT MILE MARKER 425.8, 55 FEET NORTH FROM THE CENTER LINE OF THE TRACK, 44 FEET SOUTH FROM THE FENCE ALONG THE ORCHARD RANCH, AND ABOUT 5 FEET LOWER THAN THE TRACK. THE BOTTOM OF A SQUARE HOLE, CUT IN THE TOP OF A SQUARE LAVA POST, SURROUNDED BY THE LETTERS U.S.B.M., AND 1 FOOT ABOVE THE GROUND.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991. WARNING-Repeat measurements at this control monument indicate possible vertical movement.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
