Documented History (by the NGS)

01/01/1912 by CGS (MONUMENTED)
DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1912 (CVH) ABOUT 2-3/4 MILES SOUTH OF MINNEKAHTA, ABOUT 3/4 MILE NORTHEAST OF ARNOLDS RANCH HOUSE, ON HIGHEST POINT AND ABOUT 55 YARDS FROM NORTH END OF PARKERS (OR ARNOLDS) PEAK, TOP OF WHICH IS ABOUT 160 YARDS LONG NORTH AND SOUTH, AND ABOUT 44 YARDS WIDE. SURFACE MARK IS STANDARD STATION DISK IN CONCRETE-FILLED, GALVANIZED-IRON CYLINDER PROJECTING ABOUT 3 INCHES ABOVE GROUND. UNDERGROUND MARK IS BRASS BOLT IN CONCRETE BLOCK. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 IS STANDARD REFERENCE DISK IN SOLID ROCK, 0.34 METER (1.1 FEET) ABOVE STATION, AND 25.471 METERS (83.57 FEET) FROM STATION N 26 DEG 15 MIN E. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 IS 1 INCH DRILL HOLE IN SOLID ROCK, 1.42 METERS (4.7 FEET) BELOW STATION, AND 11.450 METERS (37.57 FEET) FROM STATION N 55 DEG 12 MIN W.
01/01/1963 by USAF (GOOD)
RECOVERY NOTE BY US AIR FORCE 1963 STATION FOUND IN GOOD CONDITION. LOCATED ON TOP OF A LOW, FLAT-TOPED PEAK WHICH IS THE MOST WESTERLY OF A GROUP OF PEAKS AND RIDGES SOUTH OF MINNEKAHTA, APPROXIMATELY 17 YARDS N OF THE CENTER OF THE PARKER PEAK LOOKOUT TOWER. THE MARK IS A STANDARD DISK IN A CONCRETE-FILLED GALVANIZED IRON CYLINDER, FLUSH WITH GROUND AND UNSTAMPED. TO REACH STATION FROM EDGEMONT, PROCEED E AND N ON HWY 85A AND 18 TO MINNEKAHTA. PASS THRU MINNEKAHTA AND FOLLOW AROUND SHARP RIGHT IN HIGHWAY, TURNING RIGHT AT FIRST ROAD (DIRT) WHICH APPEARS TO BE A PRIVATE ROAD LEADING TO A FARM HOUSE. PROCEED S ON ROAD, PASSING FARM HOUSE ON RIGHT, PASS THRU GATE INTO PASTURE, AND FOLLOW TRAIL ROAD SOUTH AND EAST TO TOP OF RIDGE. AT TOP OF RIDGE A USFS SIGN INDICATE DIRECTION TO LOOKOUT TOWER. FOLLOW SIGNS WEST TO TOP OF PEAK AND STATION 17 YARDS N OF LOOKOUT TOWER. A DRIVE STATION IN GOOD WEATHER. UNLESS TREES ARE OUT, PROVO ASTRONOMIC AND PROVO EAST BASE SOUTH OF STATION ARE NOT INTERVISIBLE AT NORMAL TRIPOD HEIGHTS FOR INSTRUMENT AND SIGNAL. VISIBILITY TO NORTH IS UNOBSTRUCTED BY TREES.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in January 1998.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
