DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1936 (JB) ABOUT 29 MILES AIR LINE NORTHWEST OF FORT WASHAKIE, AT HEAD OF SPRING CREEK, BETWEEN BOB AND WILLOW CREEKS, ON HIGH BARREN RIDGE, WHICH SHOWS UP FROM STATE HIGHWAY 287 AS ONLY BARE GRASSY PEAK IN VICINITY. ESTIMATED ELEVATION OF PEAK ABOUT 10,500 FEET. THERE IS ROUGH HIGH OUTCROP OF SANDSTONE ABOUT 40 FEET HIGH AT EAST END OF RIDGE, APPROXIMATELY 1/4 MILE EAST OF STATION, AND LOW GRASSY SADDLE ABOUT 1/2 MILE TO SOUTHWEST OF STATION. TO REACH FROM CROWHEART STORE ON U.S. HIGHWAY 287, 31 MILES BY ROAD NORTHWEST OF FORT WASHAKIE, FOLLOW HIGHWAY EASTERLY 0.45 MILE. TURN RIGHT OFF HIGHWAY AT SIGN MEADOW CREEK R. S. 10 MI. AND GO SOUTHERLY AND WESTERLY ON ONLY WELL-TRAVELED AND GRADED ROAD 9.8 MILES TO MEADOW CREEK RANGER STATION AND END OF TRUCK TRAVEL. ROAD TO RANGER STATION IS CLOSELY FOLLOWED BY TELEPHONE LINE FOR ENTIRE DISTANCE. RANGER CAN FURNISH INFORMATION AS TO WHERE HORSES CAN BE SECURED. FROM RANGER STATION TAKE NO. 1 FOREST SERVICE BOLDY MOUNTAIN TRAIL SOUTHWEST 2 MILES UP CANYON TO ITS HEAD AT OLD CROSS-TRAIL. FOLLOW OLD TRAIL WESTERLY 2-1/2 MILES TO CREST OF BARREN RIDGE. GO SOUTHEAST 1/2 MILE TO TOP OF BARREN PEAK AND STATION. DISTANCE 5 MILES, REQUIRING 2-HOUR HORSE PACK. STATION MARK IS STANDARD DISK IN BEDROCK. REFERENCE AND AZIMUTH MARKS ARE STANDARD DISKS IN OUTCROPPING BEDROCK. NO. 1 IS 8.850 METERS (29.04 FEET) NORTH OF STATION N 00 DEG 28 MIN E. TO THE MEADOW CREEK RANGER STATION DESCRIBED IN NGS DESCRIPTION) AND FOLLOWING DIM TRACKS SOUTHERLY UP GRASSY SLOPE AND THROUGH TIMBER, KEEPING ON DIM TRAIL AND HEADING SOUTHERLY TOWARDS LOOKOUT HOUSE, OCCASIONALLY VISIBLE ON BALD HILL, IN SW. 1/4 SEC. 20, T 3 N, R 5 W. STATION MARK--STANDARD DISK IN BEDROCK.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in January 1997.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
