Benchmark #698. 10:50 am. Found along Hwy 20 on drive from Bend to Burns for a field trip. The published coordinates place this BM about 1.25 miles to the north along a different road, but description fits this location on Hwy 20. Volcanoguy

Following up on mloser’s excellent idea, here is an 1883 US Surveyor-General’s Office map showing a wagon road and overlaying mloser's projected position for this mark and the current location of Highway 20.

Two of us spent 45 minutes looking on both sides of the old Bend-Burns road for this and could not find it.
Something seems “off” about either the description or the scaled coordinates.
We want to research more and return to look again.

3 of us looked for it on the south side of the road. It could easily be obscured by brush.
